Sticker shock...

When I went to purchase my tag, the thing was $800.00. Is that normal?

Mine here in Arizona for a trailer valued at 15,000 was $477 for two years, That was way higher than I was paying for a previous trailer of about the same value just 3 years ago.

Registration costs vary by state but in the big picture whether it's sales tax, registration fees, Personal property tax, Luxury tax or what ever they all are going to get your money in some form of tax or fee.

Did that include tax, or just registration? If it included tax that’s pretty good. Utah is a scale that gets lower as the trailer ages. ~$240 the first year, and is ~$65 by year 6.

What was the purchase price of the rv?
That normally dictates what the registration costs at least in ca.

Mine was $264 for our 2019 jayco 248rsbw here in ca.
That's for 1 year.

AZ cost

In AZ the license cost is about $40 a year. But the property tax starts at about $600 on a $25,000 purchase then drops each year. I had a Mustang for 25 years, and before I sold it the tags were down to $38.

$250 for 2-year registration here in Oregon. We don't have personal property tax (but have plenty of others, of course).

Unfortunately, we don't know if we're talking about a $1000 used travel trailer in Podunk, Mississippi or a brand new $500,000 custom Fifth wheel in California. Assuming we can narrow it down that much since this is the TT, 5th W, & TC forum. Also, assuming we're talking about 1 year registration only based on the discussion so far.

That seems high for a typical TT but probably not abnormal for a mid-high end 5th wheel, especially if its in CA, NY, or another HIGH tax location. Valuation obviously plays a significant role, but "registration" varies considerably based on location. Not only the cost, but what "registration" includes. For example, here in AL, if I recall correctly the tag portion of my registration is considerably less than $100/year, but the advalorem taxes added to the registration are considerably more than that. The taxes in my registration doubled when I moved about 2 miles from the county to within the city limits.

Well Washington makes it up on the other end...
$38.00 weight fee on a 2019 Honda CRF250 Dual Sport makes the annual registration almost $90. It weighs less than 300lbs.

The weight fee on our 28000lb coach is $75...go figure.

Really depends on the state, here in Lousiana it is $25 per year, plus a couple of dollars processing fee for our motorhome. Of course we do get hit with 9%+ sales tax
