I tow a 6,500 pound boat/trailer with a 2009 2500 Suburban. I have anywhere from 5 to 9 people in the Suburban while towing. I have no complaints with the combination. I feel like it could take another thousand pounds or so of trailer weight. (The actual tow rating is 9,200). I think my tongue weight is around 500 pounds. I want to move the boat forward on the trailer to increase the tongue weight a bit because the Suburban rear suspension still feels plenty stiff.

I did extensive research before we decided upon purchasing a van. There is far more room, the cargo weight was always higher, and the price was very close. The comfort and being able to move around (and traveling with a dog) was a very strong consideration. We purchased a Chevy Express 2500 because it came on a truck suspension. We have traveled over 8,000 miles with it and love it.

I towed once with a van, they are very light weight, the van got driven by the TT, would go with a correct weight to pull vehicle

Towed both my 2005 and 2013 Aerolite hybrid with a 4Runner SUV. (7200 max towing cap.) The 2005 was 3800 dry, the 2013 was 4400 dry. Yes the 4Runner had the 4.7 L V-8. I only towed the 2013 RV for a year till I bought my Tundra. The 4Runner did make for a good tow vehicle / daily driver. Loaded I was looking at 5500-6000.

A full size van will suffer in its MPG vs most SUV's. As a daily drive the van will be a little harder to park if used as a daily driver too. Loading down the van with as many people you are planning, even a 2500 series, you may have to upgrade the vans rear suspension. A buddy had to do that to even with a F-350 van towing a 30' RV trailer.
