I’d say go with the WDH hitch. They are worth it. You may want to check your hitch ball size. A lot of TTs now run the 2&5/8 hitch ball. I don’t know if yours does to. Enjoy.

I have the 21 RBS and tow with my D1500. No way I would tow without my Equal-I-Zer hitch. Pulled it to the local dump station once with out the bars, was not fun in the wind at all.

Your truck is not rated to carry that much tongue weight without a weight distributing hitch. If you look at the receiver it has two weight limits, weight carrying and weight distributing. Get the genuine Equa-lizer 4 point, there is a reason there are more of them than most other hitches. Best $500 you will spend.

By the way, it works best after a hundred miles or so when the paint wears off of the bars where they ride on the brackets.

And lube it according to the owner's manual and it will be pretty quiet too. I've got one, very happy with it.

Yes it helps considerably. Use a complete weight distribution hitch. Despite the dead weight capacity of your 2" receiver you'll end up with too little weight on the truck's front axle. You'll have much better steering and handling.

My last tow vehicle ( 4Runner) had a decal on the factory hitch for the hitch tongue limit (720 lbs. without a WD hitch, 1120 lbs. with a WD hitch.

My Tundra doesn't designate if it's with or without a WD. Just says 980 lbs. I have even talked to the dealer general manager and Toyota corporate and it just lists one weight number for the tongue limit.

Yes, I will WANT a WD set-up

Ugh...my Land Cruiser's says 850 lbs. No mention of what that would be with WDH. I emailed Toyota and got a reply stating 850 for both, which is nonsensical. If using a WDH increases the hitch capacity of the 4Runner by 55%, I guess I'm good for 1,317.5 lbs. when using a wdh. Having owned a 2011 4Runner I know how much more robust the Land Cruiser is.

Using the same math, your Tundra should be good for 1,519 lbs. with a wdh.

It's supposedly 1285#

...psst...that's why all this weight stuff is meaningless and nonsensical...

Quick, email the weight police and report the guys below! Make sure they know about that sticker on the door! Also ask them how they can add over 3,000 lbs. of armor to the payload and still pack in 7 dudes with body armor, weapons, and ammo...while running P tires, lol!!

Yes to a W/D hitch. It helps tie the trailer to the truck. I had A 2011 F-150 using a W/D hitch with a 5,500lb trailer. Great combination. You will like towing with your F-150 if you add a W/D hitch. A W/D hitch also helps some with sway.

Yes, my same thinking...But, unless I see it in print...I have to go by the the 980 lb. limit that is in print.

I do have to say, my 4Runner (2005) with the 4.7 L (V-8) set up right for towing smaller RV trailers (under 4500 lbs dry) was ideal as a "daily driver" it was a nice vehicle to drive day to day. The last year of the V-8 was the 2009 model year. Maybe 10-15% of them had that option.

Just because someone is doing it does not mean it is smart or safe.
