Question Thetford C402 cassette toilet..remove sliding cover for use or not?

This is our first travel trailer and it has the Thetford C402 Cassette style toilet with the sliding cover that goes over the top of the blade opening. I realize that the sliding cover is to be used as a "wrench" sort of to remove the top of the cassette for replacement of the seal/parts or deep cleaning.

Question is, should I slide the sliding cover back when we are out and about using the trailer and the toilet is in use or do you leave it slid closed and it automatically opens and closes when you hit the "blade button" up on the toilet itself?

I understand that the blade part opens up when you use the lever on the toilet but the sliding cover I am not sure what do to with.

Thanks so much for any advice,

Donnie

I thought the cover on cassette slid open when you inserted cassette into toilet base and then slid closed when cassette was removed

Thank you very much! Ours didn't come with the entire lid assembly so I didn't know how the sliding cover worked other than it needs to be closed when I remove the cassette to go and dump it.
