Tire wear patterns

Does anyone know why a trailer tire would show wear in one tread groove.

Tire was mounted on a Dexter torsion tube axle.

The tire is the third one from the left in the set of four.

Wheel bearings were checked
If the axle was not aligned it would wear tires on both ends of the axle
Air pressure and temperature are monitored by a tire minder

I was think of a bad tire?

If I were betting I'd say under-inflated but OP says not. Tire minder not recording properly??

Looks like under inflation.

I'd start using a real tire pressure gauge for a while and I would also shoot the tires with an IR gun every time you stop. A tire that runs consistently warmer than the others is low on pressure.

If that is the inside edge of the tire it could be that it is carrying more weight than the other tires. The side with the slide or kitchen are often quite a bit heavier than the other side. And if the trailer rides a bit nose high the rear tires will have more weight. Likewise if nose low the front axle carries more.

If the axle is bent right at the spindle, which can happen from curb strikes, then just the tire with the bent spindle will wear while the tire on the other end of that axle will be normal. If it continues then see a truck suspension and frame shop. They can measure everything and get it aligned back up.

One last possibility is that the bushings on that side are worn out. Wet bolt kits are cheap and have bronze bushings instead of plastic. If your trailer has 10,000 miles or more on it you need to check those suspension bolts.

Under inflated both edges would be worn, This is a enclosed car carrier, weight is pretty balanced

I'm an old truck driver, no curb strikes, no scuffs on the sides of tires.

Trailer is high mileage, please explain more.

Check your spring shackle bushings like others have said-happened to me with a brand new trailer; One tire wore out, others fine. Bushings were shot. Factory said 'wear item', no warranty. My dime.

With wet bolts, you have to grease 'em every 5,000 miles or they will too wear out. Ask me how I know.

When I get around to it, I'm replacing my wet bolts/bronze bushings with Never Fail bushings. We'll see.

There are no spring shackles, these are Dexter Torque Flex axles.



I do have some additional information. When level the tires are straight up and down, however if I dip the nose of the trailer the tires in the front tip in at the top.

Maybe a defect in the tire? Build issue or something slipped in the tire?

My first thought, but one tire failed and a second id showing wear on the edge. First tire was replaced under warranty.

My Trailer (Loaded) is as Level as I can Adjust the Hitch with the MH Aired up. And I'm sure I have more weight than yours !

Next race is August 4th and 5th, leaving August 1st for Gateway. I have the trailer as level as I can get it, there is an inch difference front to back on 28 feet. They only make the class 5 solid hitch ball mounts in 2 inch increments.
