Tongue Weight

Question for you. Is the weight of the hitch counted towards the 10-15% tongue weight or does it go against the payload.

Not exactly sure how to look at that. I have seen the statement made that it counts as tongue weight, but would like to be sure.

Weight of HITCH (receiver/ball shank) is counted as part of 'tow vehicle payload. Vehicle carries that HITCH weight

Tongue weight is the amount of trailer weight NOT being carried by trailer axles
Items on the front A frame add to the tongue weight (battery/propane/trailer jack)


Tongue Weight: The downward force or weight that the tongue of the trailer applies to the hitch of the tow vehicle.
Note that tongue weight is considered part of the vehicle’s GVW, however the entire weight of the trailer is not.

This is what I always thought was the definition of tongue weight but I have seen numerous posts telling people to add the weight of the hitch to the tongue weight.

I understand that the hitch should be part of the payload but wanted to make sure I was thinking correctly.
