You might want to talk to the dealership about changing out your
ring & pinions in both differentials to 3:92 ratios. Cost used to run
about $500-700 for each differential.

Or just get used to going up hills slow.

Or down the road trade in your truck for a 2500 diesel.

Right now I'm not in any hurry, but I'll keep that in mind Philip.

I don't think your 2014 ram with 4wd has 3:21 axle.
It's either 3:55 or 3:92.
Go to a dealership and have them run your vin #.

I asked the dealer to verify it and they just came back with a sheet of paper with different possible combos and had 3.21 and 7900 lbs highlighted.

When I did the VIN search on RAM's website it came back with an payload of 1417 and Max towing of 7900 lbs, but no axle ratio. It's like trying to find Bigfoot... 😄

here's something else to check...the hitch that comes from the factory...with the 3.21 rears and the rated weight of 7900, you need to check the hitch numbers. I have the the Big Horn 2016, 1500 with 3.21, 8040 rate. The hitch is rated for 5000 lbs and 500 tongue. The next available factory hitch is 10000 lbs and 1100 tongue. I am getting price on swapping out gears to the 3.92's and upping the hitch for the higher capacity. Will be towing apprx 9000 lbs. You may want to check your tires also. Our truck has GY Wrangler's OEM's, not rated for weight we need. Hope you get everything straight. Be safe.

Weigh your truck with you and a full tank of gas and subtract that from your truck's GVWR to find your real payload. Don't trust the door sticker or a brochure or a website!

I'm putting a set of Goodyear Wrangler Adventures (formerly Silent Armor) or Michelin LTX ATs on my RAM next week. So far towing has been really smooth with the Equal-i-zer hutch, but thanks for the info on the max hitch/tongue weight. I still need to get the truck and trailer weighed together, then I'll look at possible rear end gear upgrades.

I'd be curious to hear prices on your planned upgrades, sejac55.
