Travel trailer awning not stopping when button is released
LOOKING FOR REAL SOLUTIONS!
Hello, I have a 2013 Golf Stream Visa 19RBS with a power awning. When opening or closing the awning part way it keeps moving after the switch/button is released. If I play with the switch/button switching between open and close I can get it awning to stop. I did some checking on it on the Internet and found information that it was the switch/button. I ordered a new one and it is worse with that switch than the old one. Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? Is there someone out there that can help me? First time posting and only the second season with the camper.
Thanks for the help.

If you know what brand of awning it is, call the manufacturer and get a switch from them. Even though the price may be higher, it could be a higher quality switch.

I had a Gulfstream Product years ago. I was lucky as everything worked for the 5 years that I used it petty hard. I stayed in it 6 months one time. I will say that the wiring was not very neat. Just maybe there are two wires that are touching and they should not touch.

i agree with the comment above and get a switch from the manufacturer or your local RV shop.. You can go to your local automotive store and get a toggle switch and plug it in. this will tell you if you have a bad switch or something else is happening.

Does your awning have exterior controls? Mine does this when the outside switch gets wet.

Nope no exterior control. Also, where we are working for the summer we have not had rain in over a week. I also found out the awning is a LCI. I could not find a manufacturer number on the awning at all. I contacted them and found out that switch is a four wire switch they use on a lot of their awnings, so I ordered one. I'll see if that works once I get it and install it.

With the awning all the way out look for a part number label on the aluminum roller.

Some awning controls are wired to automatically run until fully extended or rrtracted. However, even those can usually be manually stopped by a second press of the same button that started the action.

I had a 2011 5th wheel that I could stop the awning anywhere I wanted by letting go of the switch. Sometimes I would stop it to clean it. 1' or 2' or 3' etc. That allowed me to clean it. So maybe your 2013 awning is similar. The new switch should have fixed it. I agree with get another switch and try to get it from the manufacturer.

So, received the factory switch and it does the same thing. So with this switch after I released the button I unplugged the switch and awning still rolled in or out, whatever I pushed last. Checked the wires for voltage after the switch is removed and found none.

Humm - the 3rd switch and still not working. I don't know what is wrong. Maybe check the wires you can see to see if you can see a problem like them touching bare wires.

What brand and model of awning? Not all are designed to stop when you release the switch. Read my post #9. Have you looked for the awning control board?
You seem to be chasing your tail with one switch after another.

Things are so many "smart" things these days it's hard to tell sometimes what's going on.
The switch is normally going to have 12V to a common terminal and depending on which way you press the switch, you would get 12V on the fwd or rev wires. Those may or may not actually power the awning. They may just be control signals.
I would disassemble the power head on the awning and see if there is a control circuit board in or on the motor. Also check if there is a constant 12V there rather than just the fwd or rev wires coming from the switch.
There has to be power there somewhere if the motor runs after the switch is released and the switches are working.
Good Luck
