If I couldn't leave home with a full tank of water, I'd either get a bigger truck or a better quality trailer. If you can't have water, you might as well get a tent.

Hello Jim Howard,
As I read your contribution to our discussion, I felt stupid!
How do you know the person "...hurt his child enough..."?
In your experience, how much child hurt is enough, how much child hurt is not enough?

I’m almost 83 and need to use the facilities almost hourly. Needless to say there are very few rest stops in some states, Tennessee being one of the worst. 3/4 of a tank always.

[QUOTE=Leec12;5312121]Hi Folks,
I am thinking that if you want to see how well your rig handles over heating take it full over some steep grades in summer and see how your engine likes the load with full water. Like someone said 8.3 pounds/gal. 500 lbs extra weight might make you hit the red line on the radiator sooner than you would like, so experiment a little or learn how to use the heat control to help cool.

I put about 10 gallons in my fresh water tank before I leave on any trip. Just enough for bathroom use and hand washing.

I was parked 2 blocks away from the garage at his house driveway. While I'm sure he could have he did what he could. He and his mechanic who normally close at 5 stayed till after 8 to get me repaired. I've learned to be thankful for what I do have.

Water Tank
I have a 40 foot DP. I have a 90 gallon fresh water tank and I keep it at 25 percent full. Approx 22 gallons. It comes in handy when for emergency stops.
All the replies I’ve read to your question are valid and dependent on the vehicle.
I would suggest you drive full and drive empty and see what is comfortable for you.
Happy Trails.

I keep 1/8 to 1/4 tank just in case I need to use the bathroom. If dry camping, fill it. Why carry unnecessary weight. I have great water filters so water at a camp ground is not a problem. Better to have good water filters.

I fill up with water at home as I know the water is good. A few times looking at your screen when unhooking at a campsite will convince you of the same. If you do use Campsite water, make sure to always use a good water filter.

Why?
Anytime we choose, we can pull off anyplace to 'freshen-up'
And if we need to worsh the windshield, we can worsh our hands after.
A couple-three years ago, we were returning to Oregon on Interstate Five.
Just north of Oregon's southern border is the dormant volcano Mount Ashland.
That grade is ferocious!
Part-way up, we lost all the coolant in the radiator.
Fresh clear drinking water to the rescue.
Occasionally, traffic or weather may divert our plans.
A full fresh tank of water is a blessing!
Unless you were asking about toilet water.
In that case, no.

I wish i knew our water was good. Our water leaves a pink trail after awhile. I dont touch it if its not from a bottle.

It's what the plants like!
It's got electrolytes!
Now that's funny, but water is for toilets...
