Troubleshooting a fresh water leak

My wife and i purchased a 2002 31" Classic Airstream. I noticed that when we filled the fresh water tank from from our house (as opposed to an RV shore supply). we have a leak.

Upon visual inspection of the metal pan, it has a significant dent where the previous owner hit something. I assume the tank has a crack. This may or may not be the case.

When i dropped the tank, i can see that the hose to fill the tank from the house (not RV shore supply) is ripped. However i cannot reach it due to lack of space. There are three other cpvc plastic pipes on top of the tank.

I am concerned that if i force the tank further down- i could damage these three (cpvc) pipes as well.

I checked inside the trailer but cannot see a way to remove the hose from the tank.

Can any body Guide me on how to remove and replace the torn hose?

Thank you

Bill from Georgetown Texas

It is a fine line between getting it down far enough or breaking something. That in itself should be a case study. 'How far can old plastic bend' or how tight can I turn that screw before it strips.

Not sure if this is a job for 'Leak Ender' or not but that is an idea. You know - that spray plastic stuff.

I did check - yes the product I was thinking was 'Leak Ender'. But it does not get very good reviews.

What would work is that kinda product that does work.

I know they also make a tape / patch. I do not have any experience with that product but remember seeing amazing ads on TV.

Fresh water leak leaking intake hose- continued

Thank you for replying to my post.

I am thinking about going ahead and cutting the hose-because it has a significant rip and is going to need to be replaced.

I filled the tank with the lower inlet (RV Shore Supply) and tank is not leaking.
After i get back from my trip to New Mexico. i will empty the fresh water tank and drop the tank- then cut the ripped hose and see how low i can get the tank towards the ground.

Then hopefully i can be observe how the c-pvc is hooked to the tank and replace the hose and the outside inlet box (not the rv shore supply).

Any ideas?

Surprised that your plumbing consists of c-pvc. Pex is far more forgiving in mobile applications.

We had a leak in the PEX line to our shower valve (they drove the screw holding the bezel right thru the PEX). I could barely fit my hand in the space. First time I've used SharkBite fittings. Things would have got ugly if not for that.

Could you maybe insert a slightly smaller hose through the damaged one and make it work if you can't pull the tank far enough?

Like a sewer 'pipe burst' replacement.
