TT or 5th wheel?

I searched for a thread on this. If there is one and I missed it, link me, and accept my apologies.

We are thinking (again) about going full time. Looking at newer used units. We want a toy hauler, W&D, integrated generator, full sized fridge, bunkies for the grandkids. After that, we are flexible.

The question is - 5th wheel or TT? The TT's are more affordable often, but we want to make a long-term purchase.

Thoughts?

You’ll get more storage with a 5th wheel. But you lose truck bed storage because of the gooseneck. Typically a higher roof in a 5th wheel so it doesn’t feel as tight inside.

Lots of space, with W&D, bunkhouse, you will need a 40' TT for long term use. IMO, this is not even a choice, you need a FW, which will handle so much better at 35-40ft length needed for the use you want.

We have a 45-foot 2018 Road Warrior 427 with everything you listed, except we do not have a W&D. For a rig our size you need a 1-ton dually for pulling.
Our rig also has the side patio on it, which is very nice for us.
Keep in mind, a large rig like our unit makes it difficult in getting into some places.
Any questions you can contact us and ask.

5th wheel toy hauler is in my humble opinion the best for full time living. We had a regular 5th wheel but our toy hauler provides more space and especially storage.

We have noticed the difference between a toy hauler and regular. I agree with you.

As I said in the last thread on this subject; it depends. There is no perfect RV only the best choice for what you are doing and even that can change over time.

5th wheel pros:

- tows better
- more storage
- higher ceiling heights
- shorter overall length

TT pros;
- still can have full use of your truck bed
- TV height is much easier to deal with
- more articulation for rougher roads
- less stairs to climb.
- less capable TV required due to less tongueweight vs. 5er pin weight.

for me, if I was looking at a TT 30' or longer, I'd seriously consider a 5th wheel......but that said, if you want to take any toys you are looking at a toyhauler 5th wheel which typically gets even larger/heavier which may necessitate a larger capacity truck, and you start down a slippery slope!

Depends what you do.

Cheers,
Dave

Check the warranty on any TT you consider. Read the fine print. Most say the warranty is void if you live in it full time.

Most TT are not built for continuous use. Nothing will last past the warranty period and the warranty costs would be too high, which is why they void the warranty for full time use. Makes you wonder how long you can use it part time before everything starts breaking. Ours was about 3 years.
