Water flow device for black tank rinse; helpful.

I discovered an easy way to insure the black tank does not over fill when doing a tank rinse after dumping all the contents first. Add a flow meter to the end of your garden hose before hooking to the trailer. Hook up to the black tank rinse connector and watch the flow rate as you add water to the tank.

Easy math to figure how many minutes your tank will tank to be full; should keep you from over flowing the tank inside the trailer. Of course, I would err on the safe side and not go until the very last second.

Hope this may help someone.

Easier to disregard wasting 32 gallons of good clean water to flush a Holding tank that is going to get filled with poop again

Dump when tank is full....flush if you must with dump valve open to move the remnants out then close dump valve ----count to 10 and wrap it up leaving some water in bottom of tank to keep it wet.

Grey tanks do not come with 'flush systems' and yet they can be as nasty as black tank....rancid oil/grease, rotting food particles, hair, pee (yes people pee in the shower), sloughed skin cells, soap scum -----NASTY
Yet you fil/dump and move on

Same for Black tanks. Flushing is a waste of good clean water.

I guess a person can waste all the water they want filling up their black tank but please don't do it at the dump station when other RVs are waiting.

Have never used a tank rinse on any of our rigs but from what I have read on here, I believe people that do, use only enough water to actually spray the insides of the tank. Would think a minute or two maybe which would never be enough to overflow the tank.

Overflow accidents happen when people turn on the flush and get distracted for some reason. Being forgetful the way I am, this is yet another reason I'd never consider using a black tank rinse.

What flow meter are you using? Does it measure only show flowrate in gallons/minute and not total gallons? I have been using a Save a Drop P3 P0550 water meter that meters totsal gallons added for years to add water to the black tank prior to use and during and after flushing.

It measures GPM and the Total plus some other functions, Moistenland brand.
It has been satisfactory.

Nope. Tried that. The result was unpleasant.

Tank is getting an extra good rinse when I'm done.

Do you mean there were sewage smells inside your rig while in storage? If so, then there's most likely a problem with the plumbing that needs to be fixed. Toilet flange gasket not sealing well comes to mind. There should be no smell if everything's working properly.

Toilet floor flange seal bad
Toilet bowl seal not holding water

Air Admittance Valves not sealing....grey tank stink
'P' traps going dry......grey tank stink

Dump, rinse for a minute or two and dump again.
Last trip of the year add 10 gallons water and a cup of scented liquid Cascade dw detergent to each tank, drive (agitate) dump and rinse at home before winter storage. Never fails.

Clear elbow on the drain hose. I'm always amazed how much extra stuff the black tank rinse discharges after dumping the main contents. I see no value in leaving feces in the tank to fester just to save a few gallons of water.

We wipe down all our dishes with paper towels prior to washing in the sink. I also drain the hot water from the water heater into the gray tank prior to dumping. Yep, not only do I waste water but also paper towels. Color me bad, but my tanks don't stink.
