Water heater

Here in Michigan we camp for about a week at a time a couple times a month during the warm months, my question is, would you empty the water heater between outings?

I would not unless there was a chance of freezing before your next trip. I leave water in mine about 8 months of the year, and just drain in the winter with no problems.

DW and I have been camping every other week this summer and don't empty the water heater between trips.

We don’t empty until time to winterize.

I have never emptied water heater in 8 years except at cleaning time. We don't winterize.

If it's going to sit longer than a week between uses, we drain.

Water can become stale and develop a rotten egg smell in the water heater tank if left sitting for long periods of time.

I just had this happen last week. Yuck.
Mine is drained now. I don't need to haul six more gallons of water. 50 lbs is 50 lbs. , it all adds up.

As we do not camp every weekend I drain ours after each trip and leave the plug out over night so it has a chance to dry. We only average about 6 trips per summer.

Nope; if you're camping twice a month, it's a waste of time IMO. I leave ours filled until the fall winterization.
