First hitch was a husky and it was bad so I sold it and bought an e2 which was ok. Then I bought an Equalizer 4pt 1200 lb trunnion bars and it's worth every penny. Made in the USA.

I agree with the 1400 lb bars for an Equalizer or the 1500 lb bars if you get a Blue Ox. Both are good options. Better to over-spec the bars a little bit because your tongue weight is going to go up as you add stuff into your forward storage compartment, and you'd rather have a little extra weight distribution capability than not quite enough. There isn't any cost difference for Blue Ox, but I think there is for Equalizer.

I will also mention that I sent an email to Blue Ox with a setup question, and they emailed me back within an hour to ask for my phone number and a very nice gentleman called me up and asked me all about my setup and talked me through exactly what he would do and how their full-time guys set up their units and it was really excellent customer service, and I didn't even buy the unit new.

Just something to think about. I have no idea what other company's CS departments are like, but it would be hard to top that.

I have the Blue Ox and a trailer weighing 11,000 lbs. I would highly recommend the 20k hitch with 2-1/2 inch shank and 2k bars. I don't know the particulars of your trailer but the TW could easily exceed 1500lbs when loaded, especially if you're carrying any liquid in your tanks. I had the Equalizer with my previous trailer and it performed perfectly. I initially wanted to go with the EQ again but the 1400lb shank wasn't enough. Remember, tongue weight includes the weight of the hitch. TW could easily top 1600lbs. Check your receiver for max weights with 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch shanks. Some 1/2 ton factory hitches are only good for 1200 lbs or so.

I know of a few folks with trailers at 10,000lbs that went from 1500lb bars to 2000lb bars and are happy with the change.

In my case, it took a couple trips to find the sweet spot with the hitch. Too tight on the bars and ride is a bit rough. Backed off one link and that was it. Hitch proved itself last month going over the Astoria bridge in a windstorm, 40+ mph crosswinds. Verified by checking the Megler bridge weather station. The wind would move the rig just as it would a non towing vehicle, but exhibited no sway. 38ft trailer, very happy with the hitch.

If the coupler is is mounted/welded to the bottom of the RV frame then it is underslung.

If the coupler is mounted/welded to the top of the RV fram then it is NOT underslung. I've heard people call this "normal" or the less corrrect, "overslung".

and

Sorry, been traveling. Meant to reply sooner.

I like the Equalizer 4-point. the bars are both weight distribution and sway so there's no need for the additional sway control bar. We unfortunately sold our first equalizer with our first trailer and wish I hadn't. Just bought another. Easy set-up and a great drive. And backing up is also nice and quiet.

I have the Fast-way E2. Very much like the equalizer set up. Check them out, too.
