I carry a 10' and a 20' hose. However I rarely use the 10 footer by itself. It never seems to work out.
It's there as an extension.

Install one or more of these beneath your TT and you can have lots of hose. AND the plastic rain gutter won't cause damage as fast as the inside of your bumper will. Hmm, I wonder if you can line the inside of your bumper with gutter and still have room for the stinky slinky? Anyone here know?

I saw an RV yesterday that used a piece of perforated PVC drain pipe attached to the rear bumper with bungee cords. I think I'd use solid PVC pipe myself and drill a few holes along the top. Each hole is a potential hose killer.

For years we used a ten footer, until we ended up at a CG that needed a twenty footer. We added another ten footer and have used the combo ever since.
We have had to use two fresh water hoses a number of times however.

Interesting question and haven't given it much thought since we first bought the motorhome, but here's my thoughts: your "standard" sewer hose should be approx. half as long as your RV. It should be able to easily reach from wherever your sewer outlet is located to a point beyond the left rear bumper of the RV and also to about the middle of the RV. Any reasonable RV campsite I've seen will have the sewer dump located somewhere in that range.
So for us, with a 34' motorhome in which the gray-and-black-water connection is about six feet from the left rear bumper, a 15' hose has been enough 95% of the time, and any other spots we just wait til we're ready to dump (or leave) and use the dump station at the campground exit. I do keep old sewer hoses as emergency spares (and to lend to anybody else) and only once have we added that length to our regular hose to reach the connection.
Hope this helps you think about it!

What length sewer drainage hose is needed?
I keep 2 lengths of 10ft hose, I have only had to use both hoses one or two times in the 2 years we have been RVing. But also look into a hose support of some sort. I learned that lesson pretty quick. It helps the hose drain because most are made to allow the hose to gradually slope down to the sewer connection when you have full hook ups available.
Happy RVing!

Since my two ten footers are connected together with a threaded coupling and are difficult to separate, I stuff the whole thing in the bumper. They are a bit cumbersome on short runs.

No matter how many feet you have you will someday be one ft short.

Buy 2 15' Rhino outfits. I've never needed more than 15' but I like having a spare.

RobbyJoe,
I'm mentioning this because I ran into a guy yesterday who had been doing it wrong for over 2 years -- do NOT leave the dump valve to your black tank open when you are connected to a sewer line in an RV park. If you do you will create a pyramid of you know what directly beneath your toilet that will eventually require replacement of the black tank.
The solids and paper in the black tank need plenty of liquid to wash them down the sewer line. It's ok to leave the gray water valve open, but close it and allow gray water to collect in the tank so you can use it to rinse out the stuff left behind in your sewer hose when do dump the black. Most folks also add water to the black tank after dumping. This keeps stuff from sticking to the bottom of the tank.

I have a 20ft and a 10ft that I can connect to the 20 when required. I haven't needed the 10' often but it sure is nice to have when the 20' is 12" to short.
