No, they fit the Honda inverters. I don't know if the handle on the Yamaha is hollow like the Honda. Looked online to see if anyone made one for Yamaha, and couldn't find one, however the Hondas are way more popular than the Yamahas, so maybe that's why.

Thanks for all the help yall. Sorry I didn't respond for a couple days. Work has been crazy.

I'll go get a good lock and chain. I know they only keep honest folks out, but at least it'll slow down the dishonest folks.

If you have an open framed "contractor grade" Husky generator, ANYTHING will be quieter than that. I would not even think to haul it around with me.

Apparently Yamaha is selling their engines to anyone who wants to engineer a generator around them.

The Atima AY3000i is one good example of this.

Which Costco sells for $1199 HERE.

I bought a Champion 3500 watt inverter and carry it locked with a thick cable in the bed of the truck. Use a round security style lock for what its worth, had a spare one around. So far no issues.

Gen storage

i'm going to put a 3100 champion wireless start on a platform on the rear bumper of my T/T. it weighs 95# and I'll also beef up the bumper mounting area. with it on the rear bumper this will allow us to lift it off if we want to have it out a way from the T/T or run it on the T/T if needed.

I'd recommend the cable instead of a chain, they are harder to cut. Also use the 'round' locks.

Thanks for the info.

To be clear, I do not take that Husky generator camping. I have it for occasional use around the house when power goes out. I got it years before I had a TT. But now that I have a TT, I'm trying to figure out whether we would ever go dry camping, and whether it would be a risk to take some expensive inverters along with us.

Seems like plenty of folks do it. I'll probably buy the Yamaha, a good cable and lock, and stop worrying so much.

Wanted to provide an update. Just got back from Durango, CO a week ago. We got there a day before the fire started, so we had to battle the blaze, but we still got to go to Silverton thanks to the sheriff's office providing escort up hwy 550. Had a great time.

Long story short - ended up storing them in the truck bed while traveling with a cable and lock. Set them under the camper after we parked and cable locked them to the axle. Didn't use them on the way up due to my wife googling crime stats for Bernalillo, NM, but we did use them at a rest stop in Texas on the way home. I used the cable to lock them to our steps and they ran for 7 hours with the AC on high before running out of gas, which was just fine for a rest stop on a travel day. I will say that they may not be the best for boondocking since you'd have to have a decent size gas can to keep them running for any length of time if you need the AC. But they would be fine if you're going someplace cooler.

I also found out at the end of the trip that they'll fit in my aft exterior storage compartment under the bunk beds, so that was a nice bonus. A bit of a challenge to get through the opening, but plenty of room once they got through the door.

Anyway, thanks again to all for the help. This place is a wealth of knowledge.

Prior to owning my motorhome, I had a 30 foot travel trailer and two Honda 2000EU generators that I used in the RV lot at LSU home football games. Those two generators wired together provided plenty of power on a hot September weekend to run my single 15,000 BTU A/C 24/7. I had a six gallon size "fuel tank" that is manufactured specifically for Honda 2000EU generators that would only need to be refilled every 10-12 hours --> http://www.rvpartscountry.com/Honda-...llon-Tank.html

Several RV owners at LSU football weekends had quiet running Honda EU and Yamaha inverter type generators that were 2000 - 7000 watts in size. Owners who had the cheaper, noisy, open frame generators were not very popular. Your family, friends and others would greatly appreciate and enjoy your investing in quiet running inverter type generators!

During travel to Baton Rouge, the generators rode in the back of my four door Chevy Silverado 4x4 which had an A.R.E. brand hard fiberglass, lockable tonneau cover on the box (the cover was painted to match the truck). During use, the generators were secured to the bumper of my T-T with a very heavy duty 'cut proof' cable and lock. Now those generators reside in my garage for use during a hurricane.....
