Winnebago installing only Goodyear tires on TT's now

Finally an RV manufacturer is installing quality tires as standard. The reason may be that they cannot get enough China Bombs fast enough due to supply chain problems but hey, whatever works.

MIDDLEBURY, Ind. – Winnebago, a subsidiary of Winnebago Industries, announced in a press release that it will be transitioning to Goodyear tires on all Winnebago travel trailers. The move increases the value exchange of our trailers and provides an improved owner experience.

“We are excited to offer American-made Goodyear tires on all of our trailers,” said Joel Eberlein, Winnebago Towables General Manager. “Goodyear and Winnebago are iconic US brands that together provide a reliable product that owners can trust.”

All Winnebago towables will be outfitted with either Goodyear Endurance or Goodyear Wrangler ST tires, considered by many to be the most dependable tires in the industry.

The Endurance is Goodyear’s special purpose trailer tire developed specifically for use on travel trailers, pop-up campers, toy haulers and fifth wheels. Endurance trailer tires are designed with durability in mind to help users tow with confidence. The Endurance tire will be on the Voyage and Minnie product lines.

The Wrangler DuraTrac is designed to be a versatile tire offering off-road competence in dirt, gravel and mud with on-road composure in dry, wet and wintry conditions. Wrangler DuraTrac tires will be on the Hike and Micro Minnie product lines.

Abuse those tires too and you'll still have failures.

Yes, chances are they want a supply that avoids interruption.

Of course we all know the Endurance is a ST tire however the Goodyear Wrangler ST is a P or LT tire depending on load range.

Whats confusing is one place it says the Goodyear Wrangler ST which has one size only (P225/75-15 all season tread)then later refers to the Goodyear Duratrac which is a LT rated tire.
I use the LT Duratrac's on the wifes 1500 chevy and The tread is closer to a mud terrain for off road use..

Back in the late '90s early '00s Goodyear 16" Wrangler HT came OEM on some rv trailers with 5.2k and 6k axles. RV trailer mfg started using 6xxx rated axles which the 16" LT didn't have enough capacity.

Coincidentally we were at a friend's home tonight and a mutual acquaintance was there with their 2019 28' travel trailer. They have been RV'ing since 1995 and used to have a 32' 2005 Monaco, which he said was gas.

They said they blew two tires on this trip, one on each side. I looked at the tires and there was a Castle Rock on each side and some "ECO-Trail" ST tire. They had never heard the phrase "China Bomb".

They said they also had to find a rim, which delayed their arrival, because it got ground down when the tire failed. I have no idea how that happens on a tandem wheel travel trailer.

I asked him what pressure he runs the tires at and got a blank look. I asked if they run a TPMS, knowing they did not and he replied that he runs nitrogen in the tires.

So I told him if he blew a tire and did not know it, that meant the remaining tire on that side probably was overloaded and probably damaged. He looked surprised and said he might change all four tires when he gets back home in two weeks.

OK...

Yes, you can ruin a rim on a tandem axle. The tandem is attached to a ‘swivel’ of sorts. If one goes flat, the other one will not hold the flat up.

Jayco has been doing this since the middle of the 2017 model year production run.

They were discussing this on Youtube. Seems the supply chain is so diminished that only US of A tire brands are available. I suspect tire bombs will return once the supply chain opens up.

Sailuns are available, as are others.

Moving to Goodyears was a feel-good marketing move.
