X Chock Stabilizers: Thoughts/Opinions?
Just got a new TT and I'm ordering all that I need for our first trip. I have a few of the small yellow plastic Camco wheel chocks, but keep seeing people mention the x style stabilizers. They are intriguing, because I have 3 small kids. Keeping them safe and the trailer as stable as it can be is my primary concern. The x stabilizers look like they might hold the tires better, but I Have a fear of overtightening them and busting a belt in the tire. For those that have used them, what are your thoughts? Buy those, or stick with the black rubber chocks I can get at Harbor Freight or off Amazon?

I've used x-chocks for many years and have not had a problem with them. They do seem to reduce the front to back stability. Currently I am using only one x-chock but will be getting another. On my previous TT I had two but the new TT has a wider distance between the tires. In addition to the x-chocks, I also use the regular chocks just to give me a sense of support. When you tighten the x-chocks, you'll know when to stop the tightening process.

They reduce stability? As in they are less stable than traditional rubber chocks?

Wheel chocks are for preventing rolling
X-Chocks are for stabilizing....not to be used to 'chock' a wheel (per mfg.)
NOW that I have made that public service announcement....
For 7 yrs of full time travel I used a set of x-chocks to stabilize and chock the wheels of my 14K 5th wheel
YES the mfg. does have a 'legalese CYA' statement that they are not intended for wheel chocking
But I do know that if you forget to remove one from in between the tires, hook up and start to drive off it WILL stop that set of wheel from turning until you give the truck a bit more fuel-------it is very obvious that it was still on.
With the set in place it does 'stabilize' the trailer in that it will prevent back/forth rocking motion
And in my opinion and experience they will prevent 'rolling away'...chocking
But MFG. states NO for chocking duties.

I'm happy with mine. I've used them for four years. I doubt you could tighten them enough to damage the tires especially with the supplied wrench. Think of the strain on the tires when you hit a pot hole, rumble strips or other road hazard. Only down side is they are heavy and you have to get down to tire level to place and retrieve and to tighten/loosen.

I use 2 sets of xchocks all the time. Very noticeable difference in the bounce when walking around the trailer. I tighten them very tight and never any trouble. I do also use standard wheel chocks with them as they are not supposed to be used as stand alone wheel chocks.

x-chocks
We use the BAL x-chocks on our Cougar 24rks and find they do make a big difference.

We always use both two X-chocks and two the Harbor Freight rubber chocks. I place the two rubber chocks prior to unhitching to prevent unwanted wandering trailer. After fully unhitched I add the two X-chocks for stability, they are very good at that. Reverse that for hitching. While hitching/unhitching there's some motion of the tires. I don;t want that motion being taken by the X-chocks and the tire's tread.

I use regular Camco chocks before unhooking. Then I place the x chocks. I have bal x chocks. I don't know if there are other brands. Measure the distance between your trailer wheels to get the correct model.

After placing the x-chocks, I re-adjust them the next day after the tires have cooled.
