He must be related to some of the RV designers! As awkward as some of our RV's floor plans and designs are, it's pathetic they are designed by people who have never stepped inside an RV in their lives! They have to be related!

The rule most of us learned in Drivers Ed applies in these cases as it does everywhere else. Drive as though everyone else on the road is an idiot, because most of them are.
I slow down before every intersection regardless of the stoplight status. I have learned not to trust the other drivers to not run their red, green, yellow or purple lights. Saved our butts more than once doing this.

Timing of yellow duration
If it's a 45 mph zone the yellow will be on for 4.5 seconds, if it's a 55 mph zone it will be on for 5.5 seconds.

In Rochester NY, the city installed red light cameras, and then proceeded to shorten the yellow light cycle, presumably to obtain more revenue.
Lots of tickets later, and a few intersection accidents, and the truth came out. The mayor said "no more red light cameras." Within about a year they were back out there.
Someone sued to city, and I never paid much attention to it after that. But it goes to show you that there may be many factors, and the yellow light standards are readily ignored by a a municipality trying to increase revenue.

Need to have a dash cam…. Possibility that an accident could occur.. the dash cam would save you.. I am not a cop, but my experience is if he cut in front of you and slammed on brakes, and you did hit him, he could be at fault. Call or see a police and tell them your dilemma and see what they would say.

There is an organization that sets standards for traffic lights. The standard is designed to allow you to make a reasonable stop if you are driving at the speed limit without entering the intersection. I don't remember the details but the reason I heard about it was that a man in Beaverton Oregon addressed one of their meetings in California. The reason was to bring attention to the city of Beaverton. He had timed many of the stoplights there and found they were going amber to red faster than the standard. They get a lot of traffic ticket revenue. People who live there may stomp on the brakes to avoid tickets. This can lead to rear end accidents. The best thing to do is to drive under the speed limit and give lots of space in front of you.

That does not mean some idiot won't stop in front of you.
Not all states time theirs the same. DR

I typically drive 10 miles below the speed limit when there are a lot of traffic signals. It allows making a quick stop much easier.
I also like the stale green concept.
Regards, Jerry

I get that! And there could be the car that goes on the yellow in front of you turning left at the last minute! I try to travel when traffic is slow.

When coming up on a stale green light , I look at how many cars are in line on the side street .If there are many ,you can bet that the light is going to change . I take my foot off gas and set it on the brake . , letting the coach slow down to a safe stopping speed , and go on through or stop . I also like the flashing sign that warns you if the light is going to change . Don't go the posted speed limit as I go through town ,but a speed that I feel that safe and can stop when the fools pull out or cut in front of a 20,000# + vehicle.

Yellow until it is gone in my windshield is my exact reply as well. It is a touch call that you make at every light. Sometimes I brake hard and some of the kitchen stuff comes up to meet me, and sometimes I don't. Most of the time as I approach an intersection, I set a 'line'; once I cross that 'line' I am not stopping. Worked so far. Be safe, and happy camping.

In general - when I spot a traffic light, I lift off the gas. Slowing slighly and prepare to stop. No matter the color. I try to look at least a quarter mile down the road ahead.
If it is yellow when I first see it, I'm going to stop. Bet you a cold beverage of your choice it will be red when I get there.
If is green, I'm going to slow quite a bit, and if it turns yellow, I'm going to stop.
It is red when I first see it, maybe I might not slow below 30, if I see it turn green.
The only time I am not planning to stop is when I see a light turn green and I am less than a 1,000 feet from it when I see it do that.
Personally, I HATE driving, even without towing, or in a MH, where the speed limit is 55 with red lights.
US-380 between Denton and McKinney is a road I try to avoid.
Darn near ruined a set of tires twice having to lockup the brakes on FL 869, FL 865 and Daniels Parkway near Fort Meyers. Well, probably took 15-20k worth off then locking up.
I never trust any driver to not try to cut in front of me, then jam on the brakes. I expect that - because they can't see the light. They are usually polishing my rear bumper trying to get around me.
I had one guy pulling forward the second a light turned green in Fort Meyers, slam on his brakes. Missed him by inches as I slid tires smoking into his lane at a light. Lucky I didn't go into the other the lane. I would have hit the guy in the lane beside him it I had gone a foot farther.

Lots of good advice above.
Imagine the same situation in a 70mph zone. It’s not uncommon to come up on a stoplight on some 65-70mph state roads here in Texas. The yellow never seems long enough. Many are traffic controlled so if there’s a cross traffic car pulling up to the light you can bet it’s going to change shortly. I slow a bit and hover my left foot over the brake.
Hopefully the small appliances are appropriately secured lol. The poor air fryer has been toughness tested a time or two. lol.

That “line” is the start of the solid white line parallel with your direction of travel typically on your left near the center of the road. If you reach the start of that line before it turns yellow and you are driving the speed limit, you will be through the intersection when it turns red.
