15 & 30 amp Y-Adapter To 50 amp Connector

Do these things really work?

Can you run 2 air conditioners using something like this at a 30 amp campground.

Example here

Your 50 amp coach , actually is 2, 120 volt lines at 50 amp supply ; so a total of 100 amps of 120 volt power .
30 amp + 15 amp = 45 amp so UNDER half of what your coach requires to fully operate everything.

And with splitting the 45 amp power to each of the power legs = 22.5 amps , you may be able to run two A/C units but most likely that's all , inverter/charger, could overload , any appliance could overload.

Continuous monitoring for overheating of the Y adaptor with A/C units running would be required.

That adapter will not work if the 15A circuit is GFCI protected. Just plugging in will trip the GFCI.

The adaptor doesn't combine the 30 and 15 circuits and then split them evenly to 22 amps.
It sends 30 amps to one leg and 15/20 amps to the other. If the second outlet is 20 or 30 amps, and not GFCI, a second AC can be easly run.

As mentioned, it will trip a GFCI on the pedestal because the neutral is shared in the adaptor, creating a second path for the neutral to by-pass the GFCI. Un-balanced neutral and hot trips GFCIs.

Thanks for that link. Lots of good info over on that forum about how the adapter works, why it won't work with a GFCI, etc.

I decided I won't get that adapter. After some 30+ years of camping I haven't needed one so no need to start now.
