Counter Top Ice Maker

I am planning on joining the counter top ice maker craze. I however have little or no counter space in my MH. I am thinking about putting it in outside bay and then taking the ice to the inside freezer. My downside thought is the bay will get very hot in the summer, so how will that effect the ice maker.

Were do you all put the ice maker?

I used a folding shelf for my ice maker. Keeping the unit in a climate control environment vs. being in the un air conditioned basement will be very beneficial

Countertop icemakers generally do not have freezing in the ice compartment. They make soft ice (barely under 32 deg) and small cubes. So in a hot compartment they will be slower and the ice melts fast if you don't grab it when it's made.

That said, I had one on my boat and it was gold. Kept inside and empty as it was made. It could make small cubes in just a few minutes and slightly larger cubes (I forget how many but maybe 8 just slightly smaller than tray cubes every 10 minutes or so.

Used to store it until I needed to make more for the freezer or had continuous guests (party time).

Highly recommended if you don't have a lot of freezer space. Then again, depends on where and how you camp...a cheap cooler and run to a convenience store can do the same.

On our countertop mostly, sometimes we will put portable icemaker on our dining table. Not sure about a craze for using them in RVs, we have had our unit for well over a decade, definitely wiser to keep it inside to enhance overall performance.

Our icemaker is rather large but over the last Christmas holiday I did see some smaller units that don't take up much more room than a standard coffee maker. We don't always use our unit every trip, but they sure come in handy when no stores are nearby.

We ended up buying a Fridgidare unit at walmart. Its located on a counter top and makes enough cubes for a cocktail glass in about 6 minutes, and even quicker if you prime it with a couple of cubes from the freezer, when you first turn it on. We have a small adjustable strap to secure during travel

Just make sure you allow for good air circulation around the unit to improve cooling.

Safe travels and all the best

Most of the time it is on the counter. But when we have visitors and we are outside, wife will move it outside on a small table.
Our unit is 7 years old and still works.

Ours is also a small counter top unit. It requires frequent emptying making it a real pain to have in the basement.

you could do it, just have a door open on both sides when you run it for cross ventalation to cool it down. mine sits on the counter in my outdoor kitchen on my 5th wheel, and what I do is when the basket gets full I fill up a bag and ut it in the freezer and keep doing that till the freezer is full then I only start it when i am going to need it for drinks and such and have the full freezers as back up for a perticularly hot day or when I want to run the margaretaville.
