Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller Questions

I purchased the Curt Echo wireless brake controller and so far love it. I have a couple of questions and didn't find any answers in the search.

1) Can the unit remain plugged in the trailer (not tow Veh) while in storage, and if so, what is the parasitic drain by the unit as the LED lights are lit when connected.

2) Does the unit need to be oriented front to back or can it be mounted sideways?

My TV has the 7 pin wire harness angled down so the length of the unit is a problem once the trailer is connected also. I'm thinking of adding a 3ft. 7 pin extension at the tow veh. and then just leaving the brake controller fastened to the tongue of the trailer protected from the weather. Just want to verify this is an option. Thanks in advance! GH

Really, you love it?

I ordered a hard-wired brake controller when we bought our TT 13 months ago. The dealer charged me for a hard-wired unit, including installation, but provided me with the Echo and told me, "It's the same price, but much better." Only later did I find out that it is neither better nor the same price. Silly me, not understanding that when the salesman's lips were moving he was lying.

We've subsequently moved up to a Class A, but the Echo had nothing to do with it.

If we'd kept the TT I would have eventually switched to a wired brake controller, because I didn't enjoy having to drive while simultaneously needing to unlock my phone so I could manually apply the brakes. One one occasion the Bluetooth link was broken, so I had to resync the devices before I could manually apply brakes. This system is broken in too many ways for such a critical piece of gear.

The current drain, as I recall, is minimal but the unit is easily removed, so leaving it in the TV or at the front of your TT would be inviting theft.

Jes' saying...
