How far of a drop do you need for a good shower?

How high do you need to hang a water container to get a good flow of water for a shower?

What’s your favorite shower head?

The short answer is is doesn’t matter. You increase pressure (head) by 5psi per 12’ (4.3 per 10’). So trying to get more pressure by raising the water source isn’t practical. The way to get a better gravity flow shower is to increase the orifice size. Think about dumping a five gallon bucket over someone vs. having a 1/2” hose running from it.

eh, its always a trade off, pressure vs flow. You can have a good shower with little flow 1g/m if you have enough pressure, like in a home, where the pressure is what, 30 psi or more? You’re saying it would take too great a height to get much pressure, so you have to go with a higher flow.

typical household water pressure is 60-80 psi. Some more, some less. So for 60 psi in a non-pressurized system relying on head [pressure] your tank would have to be 144’ up. For 30psi, 72’. So you just aren’t going to get residential water pressure out of a portable gravity system. But you can get plenty of volume by enlarging the diameter of the opening which, for a shower, is just as good.

Except you need a lot more warm water...

So there's no substitute for a pressurized/pumped water source.
