New Midland MXT500 50 Watts

I just got this new Midland GMRS. I have not yet tryouts because I need to apply for an FCC license so I just finished applying and paid $70 for ten years license. Anyone knows how long will it take to get the license? I can’t wait to tryouts this powerful 50 watts GMRS!

You can go back to your FCC FRN account site and check to see when your license number is assigned.

How well 50 Watts will do is mostly dependent on how good your GMRS antenna is and where it is located. With a good antenna system, a 5 Watt radio can perform better than a 50 Watt radio with a
poor antenna

I bought the NMO mounted antenna sold by Midland, which did not works as well as described. I tested it with a GMRS antenna tester for SWR, which was above the specks for my location. I ended up using a different NMO antenna, I'd bought for another project, which tested almost perfect 1:1 SWR.
