Regarding Sam's explanation as to how the RVND units handle low clearances, since I'm on the west coast, and have not yet encountered a low clearance situation on one of my routes, that was an education for me as well. Thanks, Sam.
I will add however that I still like having a low clearance database loaded as an alert custom POI. There could be an occasion when I'm on a route that I may decide to take a spur of the moment detour without programming into my RVND. If there happens to be a low clearance on that detour, the RVND will give me an alert based on my custom POI at a predetermined setting (mine is set at 2 miles out).
You're asking some excellent questions before purchasing a RVND unit, but while I personally think you'll be very happy with your purchase, I would again suggest that you download the user manual, since it is very well written, and might help explain most of the overall functions.

It absolutely does not hurt to have the low clearance custom POI. However, regardless of whether or not you have a route programmed, you will be warned of low clearances. The feature itself is designed or when you "take a spur of the moment detour" as you stated above.

That's good to know. I didn't realize it worked without a route entered.

I really like both of them, but after spending 800 on two I would like to get the map updates.

I would suggest contacting Rand McNally customer support.

I ordered the 7720 last night. About a year ago I purchased the 7710 and returned it after two weeks.
Looking forward to testing this new version. Hope it is better and more accurate!

Wish I could have done that but I didn't find out that my 7710 was useless until it was to late. I kept trying to fix it with NO LUCK. So now I have a $250 BOAT anchor... Lesson learned NEVER AGAIN

Went to deposit my pay check and found that they gave us $200 bonus this Christmas! Wife got a $200 gift card from her office too!
DW also said we needed to go to Lowes and pick out some tools, didn't mention the GPS.
BTW: the offer has been extended to the 20th.

Took advantage of the trade in.
Been pleased with my 7710, I will move it to the class C that the family borrows or maybe put it in the car.

Currently, the promotion ends on the 20th. Are you sure the email said the 30th? Thanks.
