Recommend a Great Space Heater

So, most of our fall Oct & Nov camping fall in the overnight temperature range of 35 - 45 degrees. We are usually plugged into electric, so I would like to find one or two electric space heaters to avoid running the furnace all night. Safety, heat output, noise would all be factors. There are a ton of heaters on Amazon, it seems most of them from China, and many without UL approval. I tend to read reviews from the bottom up and pay attention to defeciencies. Just hoping someone here has some solid experience with a good unit. Probably a small unit for the bedroom and a larger one for the main area. I have a 36' unit. Thanks in advance!

I figure I'm the space heater king I've had so many. The best I've ever had was a Vornado space heater with the metal body. It had the biggest fan so moved the most air and quiet too. It actually had a thermostat that worked also. As I recall the metal one was about $80 bucks. Even when you get the better ones you only get about 3-5 years out of them at the most. Get one that has 3 heat settings then you can control it much better as far as amp use. The little ceramic heaters are very noisy in my experience. Even a Vornado with a plastic body is good.

Personally, I'm a fan of the oil filled ones that look like radiators, even if they are big. Completely silent, 3 heat levels & a thermostat for precise temp control. I had a Honeywell small barrel-shaped one (maybe 11" high/9" dia) we used in our Bounder bedroom. It put out heat 360-degrees so there was no cold side.

I’ve been very pleased with the $15 ones I purchased from Walmart. 3 heat settings, thermostat, plus fan only. Just enough fan noise to drown out my neighbors voices and two of them do a wonderful job of keeping my rig warm down to the upper 20’s.

Carl…. I think you may be hard pressed to find an electric space heater NOT made in China. That said, we use the three units shown here, all UL and/or ETL listed, and they work well.

On the left is My Heat by Lasko. Small, single setting 200W, we use it to take the edge off the bathroom, which tends to get chilly in colder seasons since the door stays closed. The only negative is the lack of a tip-over switch. Not a concern for us as it sits securely on the bathroom sink counter, and is *always* unplugged and stowed when moving.

The unit on the right is by Comfort Zone. Three speed (fan only, 1200W, 1500W). We use two of these when dealing with cold weather, to cover some minor gaps in heat coverage. We have heat pumps on the roof and a propane furnace as well, but in these older coaches without heated floors the heat tends to stratify, leaving gaps down low. We also use these for a few miscellaneous tasks, such as defrosting the fridge.

This is the venerable Milk House Heater. Tough, well protected, made for a work environment. 1200W- 1500W and a good strong fan, really pours out the heat without making much noise at all. DW doesn’t care for the industrial ambiance, so I just use it the few times per year I find myself operating some old equipment with a chilly cab.
All of the above have been in our coach for a number of years serving their purpose well.

CAVEAT: you mentioned a target temp range of 35-45. Remember that none of these devices provide heat in any form to your water bay. If your overnight temps might be below 30 for more than a couple of hours you may well start to get freezing in some of your eater fittings. Your propane furnace (or a portable heat source) is the only provider of heat to your water bay.

Small low wattage block that plugs and hangs from an outlet. No cord!

My thoughts are that RVs have small corners and storage bays that could use a boost. A bathroom, we have an outlet under the table, a bunk area, or whatever. Many small devices can be a pain but are more easily configured to odd conditions.

1500 watts is 1500 watts, they will generally all output the same amount of heat. We have one of these that we carry in the motorhome for those rare occasions when we need it (we have a heat pump air conditioner that will heat down to about 37F)

Honeywell used to make a heater that rotated, had tip safety switch, and LOW temp, believe maybe even labeled "child safe"; (grill too small for even small fingers to enter, and Low temp would not burn small hands/ animals even if laid on the plastic grill. Would raise 400sf room 10-15-deg in 10-minutes. Do not see that model anymore, but suspect $50 CERAMIC Disk style would serve you well/ safely?

I second the HONEYWELL, barrel front, rotating, thermostatic, "child-safe" fingers/ pets safe from sticking into holes and safe from burns, but no longer see that model online? and yet they will raise a 350-400sf room 10-deg in 10-15-min?
