Has any of the lucky people who live in the sunbelt have update on this product. Thinking about ordering it and wanted to know how it seems to be holding up.

Funny you should ask! Did some awning, window and bird $@#%! cleaning yesterday and had a chance to observe my work.

Have had the product on the roof since last fall. (nearly 6 months) I noticed black streaks on the front and back caps and along the metal cove molding attaching the rubber roof to the verticle sidewalls.

Upon close inspection, these black marks are not coming from the rubber on the roof but from the dusty sand that has accumulated on the roof from the weeks of winds without rain. (we had some rain last week which I think caused the streaks) The seal has remained intact over the entire roof.

What I should have done is to get up on the roof at least once a month and hose it off. If you are in an area that gets regular rains, this probably wouldn't be necessary.

Bottom line is that the product works very well and will save you hours of cleaning.

Am I correct is assuming you can only get the product thru Minnestota Roofing at 39.95 plus
shipping? I checked the Camping World web page and they dont have it listed yet. Do I need more that one bottle of wax since you need to do it twice the first time?

To the best of my knowledge, the product is only available through Minnesota Roofing.

We bought the cleaner & sealer combo package. There was enough product in both to do the roof on our 40' fifth wheel according to the steps performed in my earlier post and have a little left over so that a campground neighbor could try it out.

Needless to say, he purchased the package also and has done his roof as well. (maybe I should go on commission)

Our 32' MH has been stored outside since new, July 1996. We have black rubber belting along the sides of the rig (on the ground!) to keep us out of the mud during the winter. Over the winter it looked like salt had been poured around the motorhome on top of the black belting. When we washed the rig prior to heading to Quartzsite in January we had this 'salt' all over the driveway; this of course was the chalking off the rubber roof.
Remembering Warpath's review of Rubber Shield, I decided to try it. I looked for it at Quartzsite and sure enough, they had a booth. After telling the man I had seen this mentioned on irv2.com, and that Bill had wrote up a good review of it on irv2.com, and I wanted to try it because of the article on irv.com, I actually bought some. $39.95. Did I mention I told him I had seen it on irv2.com? I believe in letting manufacturers know where we saw their product, it just might mean some more advertising dollars for the site.
The directions state that it will not clean the mold and fungus stains already there, and I had plenty of these, but mainly I was concerned about stopping the chalking. Applied according to directions I was pleased with the results. Yes the stains were still there, but not nearly so noticible, the roof now has a hard sheen to it. Surprisingly, looking from our second storey window about 30 feet away, the roof looks white, bright and shiney, almost like new. Now it just remains to be seen how the weather treats it. I have enough left to put one more coat on it next year.
So far I am happy with the product, if I remember I'll report on it after a years time. I am especially interested in how this works on my older rubber roof compared to the newer roofs like Warpath's.

Not me, anymore.

When I bought my rig I thought that it was important to keep my rubber roof as clean as the rest of the coach exterior. When I saw all the different products available for cleaning and maintaining rubber roofs in Camping World and other catalogues, I knew I was right.

Wrong!

As soon as I stopped cleaning my roof I stopped getting black streaks!

I've learned that these rubber roofs are manufactured to withstand the elements, even here in hot, humid Florida.

Dirty? Who cares. The only folks who will ever know that your rubber roof is 'dirty' are the folks hanging around the highway overpass looking down at traffic.

Oxidised? So what? It's a natural process, isn't it? Do you really think it can be stopped or even retarded enough to make a difference in your pocketbook?

Okay, I've turned into quite the skeptic about this kind of stuff. I think there are so many roof cleaning products available only because we keep buying them!

Lew,
For the most part I agree with you. We usually wash the roof when it has been stored for awhile because my neighbors pecan tree sheds all over it, and it is really a mess after it blossoms in the spring.
Yes, chalking is designed into some products, like white paint, to keep them looking clean. We have no problems with black streaks or such, what concerned me was what looked like excessive chalking of the rubber roof. The Rubber Shield product is a sealer and as such I wanted to seal the pores and see if the roof would last a little longer.
In Yuma during February we camped next to another Bounder the same model as ours, only a few years older. It was evident that he didn't bother to wash his roof, as it was a dark gray overall. He had no trouble with it and the color didn't bother him (or me!) a bit
Happy camping, no matter the color of the roof , Loren

I do have a question in using this stuff. I was thinking on getting it for my spring cleaning. Then got to wondering, once used..are you locked into using it all the time. I know some of these products like window treatment that allows you to not use wipers in the rain once used is very hard to get off. So you are basically locked into using it. Wondering if the same thing is true here. Will the roof look bad after a few years and you don't reapply it. I am thinking of spotty looking where some of it may wear off and other spots not. Would I be locked into using this forever!!?

Loren,
One disadvantage of your neighbor's unwashed roof, i.e., dark grey, would be the extra air conditioning load. There's a great deal of difference in the amount of the sun's heat that is reflected by white, as opposed to dark grey.

Kerfcutter,
Good question; the directions say it should last "up to two years" and reccomends a reapplication at that time. When I described the condition of our roof however, it was suggested to reapply it every year. We'll just have to wait and see

Jspande,
Good point; however as cold as it was in Yuma this year the extra heat probably felt good

Has anybody tried the Rapid Roof System that they make. We saw it at a rally this weekend and was curious as to how well it works.

God Bless!

I have a trailer that is one year old. It has a rubber roof. I've never washed the roof. I have no signs of black streaks after rain or any other time.

What should I do?
Leave it well enough alone?
Wash the roof?
Apply a roof protectant?

I hate to ruin a good thing.

Maybe more importantly, when it comes time to reapply, are you gonna fight like crazy to get the old coating off and the new on. I used a treatment once from Camping World and when I tried to "clean" the roof the next year, I couldnt get the junk off in order to get it down to a clean rubber before reapplying the new stuff.
Any thoughts?

it is not called for to maintain your warrenty of your roof then why do it? in fact it may void your warrenty depending on the chemicals. if you want to control the streaks try rv gutters.
