Teflon Tape types

I've been using this stuff for decades and never saw or heard of different types. They bought the stuff by the case where I worked. But on the other hand we would use Rectorseal on bigger pipes not tape. But I have taped up many 1 inch pipes with the white type: https://www.rvtravel.com/pipe-thread...the-right-way/

Never seen or used anything but the white. Good to know.

I knew about the yellow but the pink is new to me. Always just used extra white on larger fittings

Worked in the auto industry for 30+ years, never saw a pipefitter use anything but the white tape, even on 3" pipe.

There is now a gray teflon tape that is a bit thicker, requiring fewer wraps, and is supposed to be universal for all types of materials including liquids, gases, and acids.

Use white tape on water connections and on gas line, only use yellow tape. NEVER use white tape on gas lines. Only use the tape on pipe thread connections and never on compression or flared connections. Use only flare connections for gas lines with copper lines.

On gas line use black iron pipe, not galvanized.

You can also use pipe dope on the pipe thread connections, but for gas lines, make sure the dope is rated for gas connections.

PTFE is PTFE, color is the difference based on the thickness. Color is NOT based on any specification.
