Torque wrench question
I'm slowly purchasing some common tools before my RV arrives. I know every RV and tow vehicle has different specs, but I was wondering if anyone knows the foot pounds of torque their RV tires require? I'm looking at torque wrenches in the 25 -250 lb range and wanted to make sure that is correct.
thanks

Depends on the RV. You aren't going to get 40' Diesel Pusher tires tight by hand no matter what torque wrench you have as they require 450ft/lbs or so.
For smaller rigs there is this :
How Much Torque?
12" & 13" tire/rim (5-lug) 50 ft-lbs. min. 75 ft-lbs. max.
14" & 15" tire/rim (5-lug) 90 ft-lbs. min. 120 ft-lbs. max.
15" tire/rim (6-lug) 90 ft-lbs. min. 120 ft-lbs. max.
16" tire/rim (8-lug) 90 ft-lbs. min. 120 ft-lbs. max.

I'm getting a 42 foot 5th wheel, so it looks like a torque wrench with a range of 25 - 250 will be fine.
thank you

I believe that there is a difference between steel and aluminum wheels.

This is the one I bought and I like it: https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...nch-95701.html
15 - 150 ft lbs, though.
My 22.5" motorhome tires need 450 ft. lbs. so I'm never doing that myself or changing one myself.

For those of you that have 22.5's, take a look at torque multipliers.
I picked up one of these to carry with me. Hoping I will never need it, but it's sort of like buying insurance.

For torquing the lugs I use a 3' 3/4" drive breaker bar with a 18" cheater pipe. Torques the lugs perfectly to 450 ft lbs. with about 100 lbs of force. Takes practice, but much more accurate than a tire jockey with a 1" drive pneumatic impact gun "given' er' all she's got capn'.....
I also carry a five ton jackstand and a flat blade shovel for wiggling the wheels/ tires on and off. Not for the faint of heart but it's what I did for too many years of wrenching in the field.

If you need a torque wrench on the road, look at using a digital torque adapter along with a breaker bar, it will save weight vs carrying a dedicated torque wrench, see https://smile.amazon.com/ACDelco-Dig...dp/B07DV33XJ5/ (note this is the new version that goes to 250 lbs, they had an older one that looks the same that only goes to 147 lbs)

I have Coachnet for things like 22.5" tires. Smaller ones I can change myself before road service can get to me.
