12 volt tvs?

Looking for some first hand thoughts, likes and dislikes from 12v rv users. Want to pick up a 32 or 40 for my camper and it looks like it pretty much comes down to a Jensen or free signal transit. Anyone running either of them?

Why would you want a 12V TV? Jensen is not known for quality products! Seems that most everyone is replacing them with regular TV's now.

I have a Transit 12v. It works just fine. It's silly to have to turn on your inverter, just to run a 30w appliance. Your inverter uses more power than the TV.

Probably no more money to buy a regular 120 VAC TV and small PSW inverter.

And, certainly a lot more choices in what will fit.

Our camper came with a Jensen JTV4015DC 40" LEDC 12v TV. We don't use it that much but quality seems fine. From a power consumption perspective the TV antenna booster takes ~.08 amps, the TV in standby mode takes ~.05 amps and powered on is ~3 amps. My preference is to use native 12v appliances where possible as more often than not we dry camp so this works well for us.

I don’t do rv parks so it’s running a generator for the wife to map with a movie. Did the inverter on the last rig and will not do it again. Not exactly a lot of brands that make a large 12v tv.

I have a ~10 year old Westinghouse 40" LCD that uses the exact same power brick as one of my old laptops. The brick is 19 volts with a 90 watt maximum output. I am sure I could power it with a 12-24 volt "cigarette lighter" such as this random one on Amazon. This DC-DC setup should be more power efficient than DC-AC-DC but I have no idea by how much.

Go down to Best Buy, Costco, etc. and look around the backs of the TVs to see if any still use a power brick. The review site rtings.com also has lots of pictures of the inputs that should let you identify the power cord style.

The used market could be a good source, but watch the weight if you are wall mounting. My 40" is very heavy by today's standards and I would not want to trust a camper 2x2 holding it in place.

We use our 12 volt T,V, all the time.
But some folks call them laptops.

There are many more choices out there as many flat screen LED/LCD TVs (and monitors) actually run on 12V but include an external power "brick" that is just a transformer that converts the 120V AC to 12V DC. Just go to a Best Buy (or equal) and ask a tech to show you TVs that run on 12V and they should be able to help. The power in plugs are a std lo V plug and many MHs have a 12V cigarette style plug near the TVs that can be used to power a 12V TV
