I understand Directv will be adding over 100 HD channels once their two additional satellites are in place and operational. We want to update to a HD DVR (and probably need a new dish as well since we currently have a KingDome automatic - not in motion) and are wondering whether what's currently available will support these new satellites and additional HD channels. Anyone have any info regarding this?

DirecTV has been mum on the new satellites and if new receivers/DVRs will be required.

However, all new fixed DirecTV HD dishes now have 5 LNBs, up from the current 3.

No one (other than DirecTV, if in fact they have decided) knows what programming will be on the 2 new satellites.

OK, What does that do for us who already have crank-up dishes and winguard antennas. Are they to become un-usable? Will the sat dishes already in use stop getting signal? The antennas? will they work with the hd signals? And last, will we have to get another direct tv sat box?
Sounds like a plot to screw the rv'ers to me.

Actually Dan, I don't think it's a conspiracy against anyone but more an effort to always be ahead of the competeition....
I'm as affected as anyone, given my in motion R6 only will switch between searching either 101/110 or 101/119.

Actually, my R6 antenna currently does nothing as there's an issue with the antenna...
Will require antenna replacement in Nappanee next month.

As I posted above, none of these questions can be answered until DirecTV announces or implements their changes.

The vast majority of DirecTV's customers are not mobile, and since DirecTV does not market mobile dishes, needs of mobile customers are not a high priority.

The mobile dish manufacturers, MotoSAT, KVH, Winegard, etc. are a reactive industry. They can only react to changes made by DirecTV, or Dish Network, as they are "in the loop".

I just updated my home sat system to DirecTV's HD receiver which included their newest 5 LNB elongated dish, which is quite abit bigger physically.

According to DirecTV the system will be operational with 150 new channels, which includes locals if you use them, by August 2008.

We too have DirecTV in the moho, but I don't know what type of mobile antenna's for HD are available, if any, as yet.

The MotoSAT, KVH, Winegard, etc. antennas all will be able to receive the HD signals, but it take some software changes in the control box or a new control box to make the dish align to the "new" Sat's. The manual dishes will be able to be aligned if you know the correct settings.

In 2008 when locals start shutting off the analog signals and you use a roof top antenna, and you do not have a HD TV in the motorhome or your residence, you will be able to purchase a HD converter box. The box will come with a 100% rebate coupon you mail in to a yet to be announced US Gov't office. And then maybe you might get your money back. This box works for only over the air signals and should have an input connector for the DirecTV or Dishnet receivers, but it will not be HD.

My HD20 box has the converter built in! I don't need it but it came with it. Something to think about, is what the extra 2 LMB's are going to have on them. I wish Directv would quit playing the 007 game.
One other thing I saw today, Dtv is now offering a tripod for us outdoor types. Strong looking thing. Must weigh a ton. Just thought it was interesting, Anyway Wonder what those other two lnb's are for....
