dkrobath, if you follow the link on the site and pick a car that does not have onboard connection, the plug in unit is still the Harman Spark, which has features that require it to be in a running car (uses the OBD-II data to confirm car is running), as well as a limited time it will work with the car not being in motion.

OK got that, But what do you think about the new RV Link they are offering? How could it affect the original Mobley plan? especially those who moved their chip to a different device? Seems they know about RVs and Mobley abuse and work arounds for RVers

Did you see the prices for the RV-Link plans?

$25/month for 5GB
$90month for 22GB (for 12 months)
$175/month for 50GB
$300/month for 100GB
$325/month for 100GB (for 12 months)
"Taxes extra"

Not quite sure what they mean by "for 12 months".

Yea not a good deal at all for anyone. Mainly concerned about them canceling the original $20 plan with the Mobley now that they have introduced this RV plan and the other for cars.

The RV Link plan looks to be comically overpriced vs. the competition, typical AT&T.

Regarding the grandfathered Mobley plan, AT&T has introduced many data plans in the last few years but nothing changed with the Mobley plan so hopefully the same now. I don't think many Mobley subscribers would convert to an alternate AT&T plan (especially at the above prices) if the Mobley plan was cancelled, so that would mean a lot of postpaid subscribers lost and stable postpaid accounts tend to be highly valued by carriers. Anyway, fingers crossed.

So to answer the original question, the Nighthawk can be left on constant power 24/7, just be sure to remove the battery to prevent destroying it. Just about any old adapter will work, as long as it gives you 5 volts at 2.0A or better. If you power it from your cigarette lighter, it'll be converted to 5 volts through the adapter...no 120 volts involved.

Correct, I should have said 110V through an adapter. Thanks for posting the clarification.

For those that might be interested.

AT&T has a little known plan for just $20.00 per month plus taxes that includes unlimited data for cellular enabled tablets and iPads. It is called an unlimited plan, however it has network management after 22GB of usage.

You can call 855-593-1430 and ask about the "Unlimited For iPad" or "Unlimited for Tablet" depending on which device you have.
This is a post-paid plan for, and there can be a $30 activation fee.

Once I received mine about a month ago I put the SIM card in a Nighthawk MR1100 and it has been working fine. I have no idea what happens if the 22GB threshold is reach as we haven't been on the road, but I decided to get it as a backup to my Mobley.

The $20.00 plus taxes totals $23.52 which is exactly what I pay for my Mobley.

Bob, this plan is, I think, quite similar to the one I had for my Nighthawk But I was paying $35.00/mo for mine, so a bit different in some ways, I'm thinking. It also had a 22GB limit and was to be an iPad plan, but the guy I bought it from on Ebay gave me bogus IMEI for a "pad" and it worked GREAT in my Nighthawk for about a year. Then in July we abused it when on the road and gobbled up 450GB of data while steaming TV. AT&T dropped me like a rock! So this time around I'm getting the unlimited standalone plan and going a bit more "legit" and will leave my sim in my iPad and tether to a router. I still have that Nighthawk around and will likely use my sim in it when faced with more challenging conditions. If I were you, I'd enjoy the performance of that Nighthawk and just watch the data consumption and hope they don't "GIT YA!"

For a very large data consumer using one of the low-cost unlimited data plans it may make sense to buy two plans and share the load so as to try to stay off of the abuse team's radar.

FWIW we (wife and I) are using cellular data only where we are right now, and home all day due to COVID so we are on the computers a lot, plus a few hours of Netflix at night and will be at about 100 GB or so this month total (spread over multiple plans.) I just don't know how it's possible to use 450 GB but yeah, that is almost certain to get you on a list that you don't want to be on.
