I don't see why not. I don't even have a phone plan with AT&T. I didn't have one one with them when I got my Mobley either.

I dropped my phone plan and went to Consumer Cellular. Still have the Connected Car Mobley account active.

My Mobley plan is a post paid plan. My phone plan is a prepaid plan. I transferred to Consumer Cellular (a reseller of AT&T) bringing my phone with me, my AT&T phone plan went away but not my Mobley plan. Consumer Cellular didn't work out for me so I went back to AT&T, brought my phone with me again and am happy again. Mobley plan was unaffected.

The Mobley plan ( called connected car) when sold was a stand alone plan. It can be added to your billing if you have att phone service. It’s added as a separate line item of the total bill but is not dependent on the phone service. Just make sure when you drop the phone service they understand the connected car part stays. Sometimes the phone csr folks aren’t the best.

As above, the 'Mobley' Connected car Unlimited plan is completely standalone and does not require a phone subscription. But one note to add is that there are many $20 Connected Car plans that are not really standalone Mobley plans because at the same time the Mobley CCU plan was being offered and sometime thereafter AT&T was also selling a $20 Connected Car add-on to phone plans. This caused endless confusion after the Mobley plan ended because many added a $20 Connected Car unit to their existing service and reported 'yes, you can still get the plan, I just did!' when in fact they did not really get the Mobley plan, rather just an add-on.

Bottom line, if you have a true Mobley plan then it can be completely standalone, but if you have a $20 Connected Car add-on to your account then it cannot.

antenna for nighthawk

I know someone has posted this before but I can not find it.
What is a good, not the most expensive antenna that will will work with the Nighthawk?

If your MiFi unit has external plugs for an antenna try a MiMo directional antenna.

I built a MIMO array on a base that I can rotate the antennas around in - I drilled a hole to put an index rod into and cut grooves that allow me to rotate at approx 70 degree increments. I have a Netgear Explore with external antenna ports. I tested it and tried to connect to cell towers close by but they were saturated so I kept turning it to the next notch, waiting to check "bars" and all of a sudden I had 5 bars - the cell tower was about 20 miles away as the crow flies.

Great job Rick! Just wondered why you went with 70-degree increments?

Thanks - I borrowed the design from @cinergi and modified it a bit.
I have a 1/4" pin and figured I needed to be solid in case of wind so I divided the circle into equal spaces and I think it turned out into 6 notches with flat spots between them - so that would be 60 degrees (I think), not 70 degrees - my mistake. Works great though.

Are you saying 60 degrees between notches?
