That's a fairly common finding when your download speed is being throttled because of network congestion. The higher upload speed reflects the networks true capability.

Following the directions found in this thread, I set up a Visible account for wifi almost 3 months ago. I purchased the TCL 20 A 5G phone directly from Visible, and the Beryl GL-MT1300 router. The phone is tethered to the router. The router is plugged into a 110v outlet. I updated both phone and router when I got them. We routinely get great speeds, and for the most part have been very happy. The only issue is that when a webpage changes or updates, we often get the following message:

Your connection was interrupted

A network change was detected

ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED

Most sited will then reload on their own. Banks may require a confirmation of the resubmission.

Any thoughts on how to stop this? Maybe a setting somewhere on phone or router that needs to be changed? We've received this message in in three different parts of Florida as well as near Atlanta, so I don't think it's location related.

I am guessing that you use Chrome, which reflects the same behaviors I see as well. Too far removed from my IT days to figure out a fix. Would love to hear one from the crowd......

I use Chrome. My husband uses Microsoft Edge. We both get the error message.

I have the new blade x1 5g and currently use the hotspot\repeater setup on the router. On the phone is there a way to have the hotspot autostart without getting and configuring an app?

Side? If I go back to tethering with a usb-4 cord will that be faster than via the hotspot?

Thanks!

PS... hope someone knows the answer to PandS' question above!!

I found this forum while checking for something about my Aircard 815S, and noticed some posters here are having issues with their AR-750S routers. I'm on the road quite a bit in hotels with slow WiFi (even when my status gives me the "good" speeds for free) so I keep an unlocked 815s and AR-750S and use it quite a bit on AT&T (100G/$55) and T-Mo ("unlimited"/$20).

Anyway, a couple of notes, hope this helps someone:

- I have several GL-iNet devices, and yes, the AR-750S does have problems with disconnecting from a tethered USB hotspot (neither my AR-750 (no "S", the non-Slate version) nor my AR-300M have this issue). I've found that putting a cheap USB hub between the AR-750S and the Hotspot fixes the USB disconnect issues, surprisingly enough

- I have T-Mobile service and the "TTL" trick still works for me; but one thing I think you guys may need on newer GL-iNet FW versions is to select the destination interface when you're using the "iptables" to modify the TTL. I use:

Code:
iptables -t mangle -F
iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j TTL --ttl-set 65 -o usb0
iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j TTL --ttl-set 65 -o eth1

ip6tables -t mangle -F
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j HL --hl-set 65 -o usb0
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -j HL --hl-set 65 -o eth1
at the end of Luci->Network->Firewall->Custom Rules . NOTE that "usb0" is for one type of hotspot (usually "RNDIS" ones) and "eth1" is for "CDC-EEM" ones like my Netgear

- That being said, I'd also tried this trick while using my Android tablet (with the same "unlimited" plan as I've got in my 815S) as a hotspot and even with a couple of tweaks to the TTL I was only getting the slow speed data; I'm pretty sure the FW in the (T-Mo branded) tablet prevents this from happening

- The connector at the back of the Netgear 815S is just a standard USB 3.0 connector (like the kind that come with disk drives). I'm not sure what/why they used a USB 3.0 connector, and only using the Micro-USB "half" seems to work, but if you want to use a full-width cable, ones like this (et al.) will do fine for connecting it to a router

- I have found that my Netgear 815S will keep a charge when tethered to my AR-750S, I just need to use a USB supply to the Slate that will output 2.4+ amps

iptables -t raw -D OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -j CT --helper pptp
iptables -t raw -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 1723 -j CT --helper pptp
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING 1 -j TTL --ttl-set 65

This is the settings I have now for my Visible Blade X1, and it works great. when i plug in the T-Mobile phone, the speed drops to nothing. The Tmo phone is a Moto G Pure that was given for free as a sign on bonus. What do I need to change to get the Moto phone to work?

BTW, only this line is relevant:
Code:
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING 1 -j TTL --ttl-set 65

That makes sense, as that's just passing traffic thru from the LTE to any devices connected.

Unfortunately (and I have tried several workarounds) the issue with using a phone is the firmware in the phone can definitely tell which bandwidth is "native" (i.e., coming from the phone itself) and which is external, and either manually imposes a data-rate limit, or modifies the TTL to ensure it's treated as low-speed data by the T-Mo system. I thought it may have been related to newer FW, but I have an old T-Mo Tab S2 that hasn't had an update in years and the same thing happens with it, whether I tether via WiFi, USB, or even use something like EasyTether.

IOW, I don't think we'll be able to use handsets/tablets for full-speed tethering unless you can find (and then know how to flash) a modified FW.

I have the T-Mo phone working now with Pda-Net, and the speeds are good, but that limits me to my laptop only, no router. I kind of was suspicious when I asked the girl at the Metro store to put the sim in my old cracked up Moto G, and she said the sim was fixed to the phone, and I couldn't move it around. But, at least I have the old trusty Pda-net to fall back on until I get back into Visible coverage. Now I'm curious what happens when I go way over 40 Gigs, and it looks like its all on the phone. I wonder if I'll be truly unlimited anymore.

With Visible I use around 300-400 gig a month.

Well, I got a warning from T-Mo, that I had gone over 35Gig, and that I MAY be slowed down. The data connection drops drastically in the afternoon from 30-40M to around 1.5M. Still just enough to do Netflix and such. This morning it was back over 100M, so the de-prioritization is spotty, but I am outside of disney.

This can happen if there is an interruption while on a secure site. This is trying to prevent an insecure connection.

Perhaps this page can give you some options that work? I would try them one at a time and then test for while to see which one of these works for your situation. It can also be if you are dropping the connection anywhere between your computer and the cell tower.

I doubt that is the case here, but those are the kinds of messages you will sometimes encounter if you try to connect to a secure site using a "load balancing" connection that combines multiple internet sources. There are several secure sites that I deal with that get "freaked out" by that since they notice that my IP address changes while I am connected to their site and they view this as a potential threat. As a result they will disconnect the secure connection. With those sites I have to disable the load balance in order to maintain a stable connection.

Thanks DocJ, your scenario is certainly one case, however in many load balancing devices you are able to segment or define paths for different types of traffic. If you and the others asking are having that problem, you should look into settings on the load balancer that would allow you to send all HTTPS traffic onto a single ISP. If you don't have that ability, you may want to get a better load balancer that has that ability...if it is really required for you.

In the end, the error can also be from getting a different IP address assigned to you at any time (which is what switching ISP dynamically on the load balancer is doing). If you lose connection and reconnect, it is possible to get a new IP address. I would suggest to anyone with this problem if the link I shared doesn't solve it for you, going through a VPN should solve the problem as your public IP address will remain while connected (if not load balancing).
