I've been using the "new" plan since December with an unlocked 5G dual sim GSM CDMA iphone 12 tethered to a Beryl GL-MT1300 router with the firewall hack. Other than network congestion in a few places during peak hours, it's been flawless.

Are you on the standard or the plus plan?

I'm right there with ya.
I just cancelled my "new" $25/mo. visible plan because they won't give me the discount on the plus plan. I'm waiting out the account time out (60 days then I'm joining as "new" and getting the plus plan. I did a trial and really like it. Only bad experience is where there is network congestion. I don't believe there is any way around times of congestion on cellual networks.

I upgraded two phones to the new basic plan in December. My personal phone I carry (IPhone SE), and a dedicated iPhone 6 for internet in the RV.
The iPhone SE was simple, just pop in the new sim and it worked. The older iPhone 6 required a chat with customer service, and they said something on their end needed tweaking, and to give it a day and then try again. It worked the next day as promised.
Hard to verify, but I feel speeds have improved with the new plan over the old “party” plan.

I have the ZTE Blade A7 Prime originally purchased from Visible -- I plugged the IMEI into their compatibility calculater, and it came back as compatible, so presumably I wouldn't have to buy a different phone to upgrade, though who can be sure without trying it?

I did the switch on Mar. 15 and it went well. I have the ZTE Blade 11 that I purchased from Visible. My fears were that they would make me upgrade my phone to a 5G one but thankfully that was not the case. Here's a link to a message on the on the "Van Living Forum":

The 'new' plan uses a new network back-end with lower latency and as many seem to be reporting, somewhat higher speeds. Now that Visible is matching the original price, as long as your phone is compatible there is zero reason not to prefer the new plan.
Of course the usual Visible disclaimers apply as both plans are subject to deprioritization from day one each month so performance can vary wildly based on time and location, that part didn't change.

I think the new plans are better and now until end of March is probably the time to change because you'll get a permanent "welcome" discount so the basic plan is the same $25 you're probably paying now with party plan. The premium plan is $35 with the discount which seems like a pretty good deal if works for you.

I helped Dad get signed on the 35 month plan yesterday march 23 2023. He bot a new phone with visible. But it seemed misleading to me in the signup and activation process as the 35 was only for the first month then 45 month after that. Anyone else run into this?

I don't think that's true. It sounds like he got the $45 plan with the $10 "welcome discount". The discount lasts for as long as he has the plan or Visible decides to end it. On https://www.visible.com click the little i in the circle next to $25/mo.
The popup says this:
Quote:
Offer disclosure: Offer Ends 03.31.23; subject to change.
New members or existing members upgrading from the Visible Unlimited Plan qualify to receive $10/mo off the Visible+ Plan or $5/mo off the Visible Plan. Promotion will automatically apply to qualifying members, reflected as either a $10 discount off the normal rate of the Visible+ Plan or a $5 discount off the normal rate of the Visible Plan.
Promo is not transferable, not redeemable for cash and has no cash value. Discounted rate will continue so long as member maintains service on the Visible+ Plan or Visible Plan or until such time as Visible provides notice that the discounted rate has been discontinued. No value will be provided to the member if an account is terminated or migrates to an ineligible plan.
|
It might end some time in the future but it's certainly not just for the first month. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go for it. I guess I have about a week left to decide.

So I just tried upgrading from the basic "new" unlimited plan (which I switched to last October from a party pay plan).
The cost was $45 for the plus plan! I chatted and was told it would not apply to my "upgrade"!

Did they they say while you wouldn't get the discount? I'd be inclined to go back and point out what the popup says. It clearly says
"New members or existing members upgrading from the Visible Unlimited Plan".
"Visible Unlimited Plan" means the old plan.
I've been away for about six months and if I go through the motions to signup now I get the discount in the cart.

I didn't qualify for the new discounted rates for the plus plan so I had to sign up for a new account, using a different email address, then port over my existing number from the basic plan. Once the number switched over, closed the old $30 account. Now I have the upgraded plus plan for $5 more than I was paying for the basic plan. Bit of a PITA but I've got the better plan.

I was told the discounts apply only for those who originally signed up for the party plan. Those who signed up after the party plan ended, do not qualify,

I see a lot of discussion about going with secondary services that are piggy-backed on current services and still paying lots of $$$...
I hate to sound like that guy who used to run a bar in Boston called Cheers, but I've been a Consumer Cellular customer now for three years and my bill has not gone up (except for buying new phones through them) for that entire time...
I was with Sprint until the Sprint/ T-Mobile merger. After that, my first bill for "Unlimited Talk, Text and Data Plan" (with data limited to 2 GB and then it was throttled back to pre modem user days...) was in the neighborhood of $250 a month...!
So, I shopped around and landed on Consumer Cellular... 2 Lines unlimited everything $87 a month... (AARP Member discount included)
Like I said, I bought two new phones through them and now I'm paying $55 a month for them, my niece needed a line so for $10, she went on my plan and now, we are back to camping... I called up and asked, "can I get my phone to be a MOBILE HOTSPOT...?"
The agents said, "sure... do you want one line to be hot spot capable or all of them?"
Then I asked... "So, what's the fee for activation...?"
The agent said... "Oh. there's no fee, it's just that you have to ask for it, and we'll turn it on for you... One line of all three lines?"
So, for now, I turned on my phone and my nieces phone (she goes tent camping...) and I'm paying $99 a month for three lines of TRUE unlimited data, text and voice... ($78 for the first two lines and $10 for the third... and taxes.) Plus the $55 for two new phones and I'm still only at $153 altogether...
I have tested the internet speed on my laptop running through my hot spot phone and I'm getting 48 Gig down and 10 Gigs up... More than enough to run my laptop, smart TV and/ or stream music through my blue tooth receiver...
And just so you know... I only pay $78 for unlimited, because I don't want surprises when and if anyone on the plan goes over the 10GB of the $33 a month plan... Check them out...

Per their web site, Consumer Cellular's 'unlimited' plan includes 50 GB of priority data and then subject to deprioritization after that, just like most similar plans. Still a little cheaper than Visible though.
