Thanks for the post.
I think it's a good sign for us that bought unlimited plans now - they are under surveillance, even if they are fighting it, they'll not throttle so aggressively now at least for a while (I hope).
I carry a company ATT phone (the company does the throttling by sending you your bill every month for review ) and I just bought a Mobley for the coach - my first personal ATT device.

Indeed, the article is from 2 years ago. Ajit Pai was a commissioner then too. It's worth pointing out that Pai DISSENTED from the ruling, and he is NOW the Chairman. So under the new FCC regime, we can assume that this behavior is 'ok' again.

In any case, for anyone who hasn't gotten the word yet, everyone needs to know that "Unlimited" is a marketing term, not a technical term. "Unlimited" cellular data is never really unlimited.

Reminds me of the Corvair and the book "Unsafe at Any Speed". Now we have the Unlimited Plan - 'Unlimited at Really Really Slow Speed"

it IS unlimited
there is no cap on usage

is is NOT always LTE speeds...
but that does not inhibit marketing it as unlimited, because it is

you may be ASSUMING that it means something that it doesn't

Case in point:
We’ve been using the hot spot (OnStar* / ATT) of our tow vehicle in the coach, over the past yr. As an alt. connection between our other 2 ea. cellular carriers and CG WiFi where present it offers moderate success. Most of 2016 as we purchased by the GB the throughput was not to bad perhaps in the 3G-4G range. Recently we have noticed a significant decrease in the OnStar* throughput, it doesn’t seem even close to 4G /LTE ever anymore. It reminds me more of 56kbps dial-up days at best.
But, for text driven forums such as this it’s better than nothing.

I see on the TV commercials in the fine print it says something about "att may decrease data speed after 22 gigs." But it doesn't stay on long enough to read it all.
