I am not a full-timer (yet ) but I just finished a week long Christmas trip with the family to Key West. Time was/is precious so I use a Macintosh Powerbook running OS X 10.4 as an operating system. I find that I can boot up, log on, check email, update the family blog and read CNN while the kids are still waiting for MS Vista to boot/load.

Are there any other Mac users out there?

I'm just learning the ropes of my new MacBook Pro, but so far I love it!!

My SIL is a Network Engineer and after listening to his rants and raves for several years I finally jumped to the Mac and am not looking back...

There are still some silly issues I need to adjust, such as the size of fonts in different applications and so forth, but so far s good....

Just love the iChat in the evenings with the family back in VA.....

After 12 years using a PC and suffering viruses, unexplained shutdowns, etc., last April I purchased an iMac 20 and a MacBook. WOW! What a difference. I could never go back to a PC.

Yes, I am running OS X 10.5 (Leopard) on both computers and like the upgrade.

One of the best things is that I take the MacBook on the motorhome and, with Leopard, I can open the desktop screen of the iMac on the MacBook and use the iMac as if I were home and sitting in front of it. That way I can keep track of finances, pay bill on Quicken, etc. Two clicks of the mouse and I have the iMac screen up.

I'm going to get an iPhone as soon as they come out with the upgrade that is talked about.

Apple is the best...and so is their stock!

Switched to an Emac 5 years ago at home and an iBook G4 laptop for the rig 2 years ago, never looked back. Still use a windows machine at work and while visiting family, dread it. You are correct we can log on do our business and get off while their puters are checking for, loading and running the latest security up dates. My daughter, sister-in-law and bosses family have all switched after a short test run on my laptop.

Ditto on the Mac. I have been using/touting them for years and have dealt with Unix, Linux and WinDoze for years at my employer(s).

I love Mac and most Apple products. They usually work great right out of the box, tweaks are easy and even sometimes supported, their industrial design skills are far superior to their competitors.

I just wish I had bought stock prior to the Ipod launch.

OK Mac folks.

What about all the programs for Windoze that I have been using all these years?

Are they available for the Mac?

Can they be run on the dual processor notebooks?

Do you use Mac programs whenever possible, and Windoze programs as a last resort when they are not available for Mac.

I have always been well aware of Mac's superiority in many applications.

I'm just not sure if I will lose anything by switching to a dual processor machine.

I bought one of the fruit colored iMacs for my wife several years ago when they first came out so she could get the inet. Two months later I bought a mac power book and dumped the dell portable and windows forever.

My oldest daughter still uses the power book. Since then we have had two more iMacs for the wife with the old one going to the granddaughter. Her dad is now a convert and is trashing his windows machines in favor of macs because of how the old imac performs.

I had a dual g4 and got a new intel iMac Mermon. The old g4 I gave to my sister for use in her classroom.

As far as those of you who have Windows and are considering switching MS Office is available for Mac OS X. Apple also has the iWork sweet which can open all office documents and even save (by exporting ) them in windows formats. I prefer the Mac versions because they are easier to use and insert graphics. All adobe programs come in Mac versions of course.

If you do decide to change no more viruses or spyware.

I have the 24" iMac dual core intel 2.8 Mermon, 4 gig Ram with 500 G HD etc and run OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Route 66, I hear what you are saying about the Windows programs. MS Office was my biggest fear but the Mac version works fine (I wrote my thesis using it when the school only used the Windows version). I haven't found a single windows program that I miss. Well, maybe I miss downloading my anti-virus updates every week in the Mac

Do not believe that just because you are on a Mac you are immune from viruses. Intel-based Macs especially should be protected.

I love both and use both daily...I do not run Windows on my Mac, though. I work in professional development and technology for a cross platform school division and need to speak the same language as any user (teacher, principal, secretary, etc.) in the system. I just ordered a new Dell tablet. I can't wait to see what that is like.

All current Macs are dual or quad (or more) cores (processors). There's nothing special about the number of processors, other than the more you have, the faster things will get done.

What applications do you use on Windoze that you need to have available on a Mac? Do you need those exact programs, or will something else that does the same thing work for you?

I've been a full time Mac user for years. Used a gaming PC for a while, until I got an Intel iMac. Now, if I absolutely have to, I'll run Win XP in Parallels, or boot native Win XP (Bootcamp) for a special programs or games. Very rarely.

If there are specific apps you're wondering about, post a list and we'll see what's an equivalent native for the Mac.

There are no known viruses "in the wild" that will attack Mac OS X. If you're running Windoze on your Mac, you need to use the same precautions for Windoze that you would use on any other PC. This applies to running native Windoze (Bootcamp) or in a virtual machine (Parallels or VMWare).

Viruses transported via email or in an Office document can be passed along from a PC to a Mac and on to another PC, but the Mac won't be effected.

If Apple, Inc makes it, we own it.

2 24" iMacs and 2 MacBook Pros. Well one of the MacBook Pros is on order since the company MacBook Pro had to be turned in yesterday, because FlyingDiver retired.

Check this out...http://www.symantec.com/norton/libra..._your_mac_safe
While Microsoft still seems to be involved, we had a nasty Mac-based infection with a Word virus a while back.

The Mac OS was not effected, but the data on the Mac and the application on the Mac certainly were. Granted, the above web page is from a company who makes money selling virus protection on the Mac...but, if your life sits on your Mac, you should protect it!
