Hoping someone can help with a nav question. iPad Air. When I start a route and ask it to navigate to my first stop, the app knows where I am and will say something like proceed 60 feet to the route. From that point on the screen never changes and I can’t get turn by turn. Conversely when I use my android phone everything works fine. When I tether the iPad to the phone as a hotspot the iPad still doesn’t work.

Google maps, however, does work on the iPad. How do I get turn by turn working on the iPad, so that it tracks my route?

Only the cellular enabled Ipads have an onboard gps. The wifi only models do not.

If you in fact have a WiFi only iPad you can add GPS capability with a device via Bluetooth such as GPS Receiver

Ok thanks. Very helpful. I tried a workaround by connecting to my cell hotspot. Google maps worked but not rv life. It is old and I was thinking about replacing. If I get cell capable iPad, but just don’t add it to our cell plan- will that work or does it also need to be added to the plan? Thanks again!

You do not need to add a GPS equipped iPad to your cell plan to use the GPS features.
