Best RV GPS

I have a Rand McNally RVT 80 for the last four years. It routinely goes crazy on me......gets lost on an Interstate. I have spent hours with RM on the phone. On one call they admitted that they were having issues with "interference". They sent me a new magnetic mount....did not fix the issue. I quit using my tire pressure monitor........did not fix the issue.
So, what is the next best choice? I have read some reviews on Garmin and am not sure if there product is any better.

We have the Garmin RV760. While not perfect, it does a pretty darn good job. We bought it 4 years ago, so likely been replaced by the RV780 or newer.

Best we have found is Garmin DEZL. It’s a truckers GPS. It uses your length height weight to plot your route.

A simple search will find many posts asking almost the exact question. The short answer is Garmin. Either the 700 series or the 800 series, depending on how much you want to spend. Personally, I have the Garmin RV 770.

I used to have a RM 7710 and my happiest day with it was the day it died. I couldn't trust it at all. Even the simplest things would make it fail. I've had a Garmin 770 for 4 years and I love everything about it. Especially the traffic reports.

Prior to the motorhome, I just used the phone. Quick lookup of where I wanted to go, good directions.

With the motorhome, the phone's a bit further away, which makes it a bit harder to read. So, I bought the 7" screen Garmin 780-RV. I like it a lot.

Pros:
  • Easy to read
  • Alerts me to speed limit changes, steep hills, and upcoming sharp turns.
  • Interfaces with my phone - I can find an address with the phone, and send that over to the Garmin.
  • My phone alerts show up on the side of the Garmin's display.
  • Automatically shows upcoming things like gas stations and rest areas

Cons:
  • Using the Garmin interface to find addresses has improved in the past 15 years, but it's still clunky compared to your phone

Another fan of Garmin's RV-770. It was indispensable on my 38k mile romp across the US and Canada in 2018 - I'd be lost without it, literally. It picked every RV park during that time, about 150 of them, missing on only 4 or 5. Two of those misses were in downtown Boston during rush hour though, so there's that.

Thank you all for your replies and good advice. Garmin I will go. I think I will use the RM as a jack pad for my next trip.

Unless the GPS has a way to enter the vehicle profile, it is not ideal for anyone towing or driving a larger rig.

I had been using a Garmin RV 760 and liked it. Now I am using a Garmin dezl 785, which is aimed at the trucking industry. I have entered a profile as a bus using my vehicle specs, and other than not having preloaded RV-specific POIs like campgrounds find it is very good.

I use Google Maps to find destinations and then use the Garmin app to send the locations to the Garmin.

A car GPS does not take into consideration the length, width and height of an RV, let alone if you are pulling a toad. That is why most of us recommend an RV specific GPS. It allows you to input the size of your rig, and will (normally) tailor the routing based on that info.
