I haven’t tried it since it’s in storage, but we have a trip coming up this weekend, so I’ll let you know. I did stream 1080P for a few minutes on YouTube.

I think it does throttle popular streaming services. See these threads on https://www.reddit.com/r/Calyx/

Some people work around it by using a VPN.

Very cool. That will be my choice if I go for this.

I've got two days to renew my Calyx subscription for $500. I have the older M2000 hotspot that likes to spontaneously reboot about once a week so I was interested in a new device.

But the MiFi X Pro was released in Nov. 2022 so it should be coming due for replacement soon but Inseego does not show that yet.

The Calyx rep said if I renew now and then want a new device a week or month later it will cost me $400 extra, so $900 total. But I can let my account expire, and then go with a MiFi X Pro for $750.

But Sprout gives me another option. I can renew for $500 and switch to Sprout for free. I asked if my M2000 is unlocked so I can put the Sprout SIM in it as an interim measure but do not have a reply yet.

I looked on EBay and there are many unlocked MiFi X Pro devices listed, several as "open box", for about $100. That's a whole lot better than $400 or $750 so I think I'll renew, take advantage of the free switch to Sprout, and then decide what to do.

My last phone purchase was an EBay "open box" one and so far that's worked out well. That's all my kids buy.

Sprout is the name Calyx has given to their BYOD membership

AT&T vs T-Mobile

I saw this when it came out. I am very intrigued. Does anyone know the coverage difference between AT&T and T-Mobile? I currently am grandfathered into an AT&T plan for 100gb for $55. We have had real good luck with signal throughout the West using it. It would be nice not to have to ration our data.

FWIW, I saw a Reddit post where the person put a Sprout SIM in their Calyx M2000 because it's locked to T-Mobile. I also found a Calyx article about how to get an unlock code so I'll go that route. Unlocking the M2000 would help me eBay it.

I’ve had AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, and I’ve noticed that T-Mobile is usually the fastest. If I can’t stream on T-Mobile, most of the time the other two are pretty much useless. I’ve mostly traveled in the Midwest and the lower part of the US. I also have Starlink MINI but very seldom use it. That has been my experience over the last 5 years.

I just recieved the Caylyx Sprout BYOD sim today and am using it in a Inseego M3000 hotspot. Watching Youtube with my laptop the throttle only allows 720P video, but If i turn on the limited VPN in Avast Free, there is no problem watching videos at a higher bitrate. I wonder if there is a simple way to provide a VPN when watching Youtube TV through a Roku Streaming device using Calyx internet?

The way to do that is to have the VPN client running in your router rather than on the individual devices. Then your whole network is running through the VPN and the devices don't even know about it.

I don't know if the Inseego M3000 can do that. A quick search suggests that it can but, depending on your technical ability, it's probably not as simple as you hope for.
