This is very good news and has been promised for a while. A frustration with Calyx for me has always been the inability to use my own device.
Finally a reasonably priced "unlimited" plan which an ordinary person can legitimately put in their own device. That device can be a good high performance router with an external antenna etc.
I don't know how much the network management after 100 GB affects speed. It probably depends on your location but I get the impression that it's really not too bad.
It's a good legit replacement for T-Mobile Home Internet if they finally enforce the location restriction.
I think it's bad news for the resellers selling all sorts of dubious plans, often on overpriced and underpowered hardware.
Of course it's only T-Mobile. It's not for you if you really want one of the other carriers. The year payment up front might be an issue for some but they also do quarterly which works out at $50 per month.
People have been putting Calyx SIMs in other devices for years through various methods but this makes it all legit.

For the BYOD plan what would be a router that would be as good or better than the T-Mobile Home Internet router.

for about $350 to 375 - GL.iNet GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) Cellular Gateway 5G Router.
I have two one on Verizon unlimited and FMCA T-Mobile. Got the first one when there was talk about T-Mobile home internet was going to geo-fence last year and Calyx did not have BYOD. GL.iNet can be setup to get around sim locking to a device. Have see speed anywhere from 80 to over 600 depending on location and have not had any issue with them.
Peplink B One 5G $599 is the other I looked at - If my Peplink SOHO ever dies that is what I would get to replace.

I have a Cudy LT18 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NDDH6S8 which works well on T-Mobile and passes the capability check that Calyx links to here https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/bring-your-own-device.
The Cudy is getting a bit old and is only LTE/4G but it works well for now. They have a 5G version but when I upgrade I'll probably consider getting something from https://chestertechrepairs.com. You can get basically the same device a lot cheaper from AliExpress etc but the guy who runs Chester has a good reputation and seems to know what he's doing.
The GL.iNet GL-X3000 that Mike mentions sounds like a good choice too.
I gave one of these https://parsec-t.com/product/husky-p...p67-5g-antenna on the roof. I got it cheap on eBay. Make sure any router and antenna can do band 71 which is good for T-Mobile.

I have the 5G plan with them now and I need to run a VPN when watching YouTube and YouTube TV because it gets throttled. Wonder if the BYOD will be the same.

I found this on amazon. Amazon says it is a frequently returned item, also while it does have 72% five-star ratings I am concerned about the 11% oof bad ratings and returns including receiving opened packaging with missing parts like power supplied. That 11% poor rating amount to 1 in 10 being bad. Has anyone here actually used on of these? How has it held up?
https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-X3...t?ie=UTF8&th=1
One other question, It appears that routers in this class are dual sim. If anyone is using the dual SIM capability what other SIM do you use? It seems intuitive that using a second Caylx T-Mobile SIM would be redundant.

Avoid Amazon and go directly to GL-iNet:
https://store-us.gl-inet.com/collect...m-openwrt-c19g
As for the second SIM, go with another carrier other than T-Mobile. Verizon would be a good alternative.

If I were purchasing today, I would go with the Peplink B One 5G. Cheaper and much more capability. BR1 Pro 5g is a great device though.

We downsized our RV and didn’t have room for the B-One in our media cabinet, so we went back to the BR1 with the 50 Series chipset. We just switched to the BYOD plan and were surprised at the performance of the new SIM. Inside a metal commercial storage bay with bays on both sides of me, I was getting 610 Mbps with the new SIM.

I just went with the calyx BYOD paired with an x75 modem from Chester Tech. Great service there, it was basically plug and play when it arrived. Only been a few days and I haven’t even setup the parsec antenna, but speeds over 500mb where spectrum gets about 250. I’m going to switch my house as well as soon as the spectrum contract is up.

Are you able to stream 1080p or above for long periods of time with the byod without issues?
