Cell phone antenna/Hotspot question

First off I am tech challenged so I am sure I am asking kind of a dumb question, but here goes. Thanks for your patience....

We have a verizon jetpack, model number rc400l. It is not the 8800 so it does not have the two connector ports on the bottom.

Is there a simple cellular antenna that I can mount on a pole outside that can connect to the jetpack/phone that we currently have or will I need to get an 8800 to do it? This stuff is pretty confusing to me and I appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Bill

Well, I am answering my own question by upgrading to the 8800 series that has the antenna ports.

But don't assume that just because you add a pair of MIMO antennas that you will achieve significantly higher download speed. Maybe you will and maybe you won't. The tower you are connected to controls whether advanced features such as carrier aggregation and MIMO are actually used. So you can do all you want, but you have no guarantee that the end result will be a measurable improvement.

Best external antenna?

So I've been travelling around the country with a MOFI 5500 router and for the most part my T mobile has worked great. Periodically when we're outside the signal area or a weaker signal the internet will not work real well or sometimes at all. So I thought about adding an external antenna and was wondering if anyone can tell me what has worked best for them. I've looked at so many and it gets a little confusing. I know that I need cables with a sma male connector, but there's always adapters if needed. There is two connections on the router and you can use one or two antenna connections.
Any input is always greatly appreciated.
