Cell phone dings like incoming text but nothing there

I have a Samsung S8 Android cell phone that recently will occasionally ding like a text had been received but the phone shows nothing on the home screen. I've looked for a text, an incoming phone call I might have missed, and any kind of incoming voice mail. But nothing any place.

Any idea what is or has happened? These phone just keep surprising me with things it does.

My Samsung S6 did that all the time. Turns out it was the WeatherBug app notifications anytime the weather changed, go figure. And I was tracking weather in about six different locations...something to check.

My Samsung phone will 'ding' when there's a software update for an app or the charge is low.

Thanks, I'll check those apps and the weather. Know it's not the charge as I keep it up above 25%. These phones are scary the way they keep doing things on their own.

Most of the "dings" you hear aren't messages--they are simply notifications.
With Android phones it is possible to alter the "notification" settings for nearly every app on a phone. Limit app notifications to those that are important to you.

May or may not be related, but my iphone nearly always "dings" twice (just like the Postman, for you old-timers!) whenever I receive a real text. First ding, the text is displayed on the screen. Then, a few minutes later, another ding, but no new text nor repeat of the original text.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and I was getting random dings, just as you are. If you go to settings==>notifications==>recent, you'll see the most recent notifications. It's especially helpful if you do this right away when you hear the notification. Just like the other poster above, mine was simply my weather app updating current temperature.

On Androids when you get a notification you don't want to get anymore for that app simply pull down from the top of the screen, tap and hold the notification. A box will pop up giving you the option to turn off notifications for that app.
