Changing DishTV Service Address

FYI: Next time you're updating your service after you've settled into a new campground, consider telling the DishTV person that you're in a "moving house."

I've had a hit or miss with DishTV when it came to updating our service address over the last 3 months. I didn't realize just how often we'd be talking to someone outside the US nor did I realize how many Americans were so unaware of what full timing RVers do. Anyway, yesterday, the young lady asked, "Are you in a moving house?" Once I said yes, the process went like clockwork and we had our local stations in less than five minutes. Worth a shot if you're having this issue, too.

Got to be careful. I told them I was in an RV. They then said that they have a new RV section and would I like to be transferred to it. I said yes, and then was told by them that since I have a receiver from my house in the RV that I would have to: 1. Fax them a copy of my RV registration within 30 days. I told them that I did not have the registration. So they said I could fax my insurance to them within 3 days, and when I was home in 3 months I could fax my registration. 2. They then told me that the receiver would be tied permanently to the RV. AND 3. They will then charge me an extra $5/month to have it in the RV. In addition, they would NOT give me the locals.

Be wary of them. It seems that they see a potential new revenue stream in how they tread RV's.

The $5.00 per month is the normal fee for an additional receiver no matter if it is in the stick house, in your RV, or car. We have two receivers in the stick house which we pay $5.00 a month for the second one. The receiver in the MH is actually a DVR version so we pay an additional fee for the DVR function. When we first put Directv in the MH I had a spare receiver that I installed myself and called Directv to activate. It was activated within about 30 minutes without any hassle. Later we ordered a DVR and the local tech came out and installed it, also without a hassle.

We have local channels on the MH receiver as long as we are within the spot beam, about 250-300 miles from the DFW area. When we are outside our local spot beam area we just use the bat wing antenna to pickup local channels.

The MH receiver shows up on my stick house monthly invoice as RV Living Room.
