Connecting Winegard Carryout Dome to SWM8 kit

On my older coach I could use the Winegard Carryout Dome by connecting it to 12V power source and directly to the Directv receiver.
Now with the new coach with new technology I need a SWM8 switch kit to connect to my Directv H24 and HR24 receivers in order to use the Dome. Since this kit has a 29V inserter to power the switch will I still have to connect the Dome to a 12V source with the power cord supplied with the Dome?

Hi wagonmaster2,

Yes - if your Carryout is powered by 12V, it will still require the 12V to operate.

However, if you are specifically using models H24 and HR24, they do not require a SWM switch. You can choose to use one if you want to utilize the single wire aspect of SWM, but all of our domes will work with the H24/HR24 when the receivers are configured per our antenna instructions.

Thank you for the information. When I use the Winegard Trav'ler dish mounted on the roof of my 2015 DS both TVs are already set for one preference (don't know if this is the correct termonology) but when I connect to the Winegard Carryout Dome I have to go into both TVs and re-configure switches, dish, etc in order for the Dome to work. I've been told the Dome is non-SWM whereas the TVs and receivers are but if I add the SWM8 switch kit to the Dome I won't have to be making all the changes on both TVs each time I go from Trav'ler to Dome and back again. The selling dealer had installed A/B switches to change from one to the other.

I'd rather use the Dome when parked under trees rather than hassle with the CG about a spot in the open, but having to change the TVs back/forth is even more of a hassle (I'm not really that much good at all this newer technology with the newer coaches).

I made a copy of the wiring diagram off the internet for Dome Antenna with Directv SWM8 and it shows all the cables running from Dome to receivers and the power connection for the inserter but nothing about the 12V line for the Dome.

OK, that makes sense, however one thing to note is that the receivers still will likely require some changing of the settings as your TRAV'LER is likely using a Slimline dish type and your dome requires a 3LNB 18x20 dish type as an FYI.

Great tip. That could have given me a real headache not knowing what was wrong.
I did send an e-mail yesterday to "help@winegard.com" not knowing I would also get an answer from Winegard on IRV2. That e-mail can be ignored since my question has been answered.
Thanks again for such a quick response.

One thing to keep in mind is that if the Trav'ler is SK-SWM model then it's using a PI-21 power inserter, but the Carryout would require a PI-29, plus you still need to feed it the 12V it needs to operate. Here's a link to a document which explains how to use units like the Carryout with SWM: https://docplayer.net/23804085-Guide...-antennas.html

Now my next concern is, after connecting the 2 receivers to the inserter, the inserter to the SWM8 switch, and the switch on to the Dome, will it make any difference whether the inserter is plugged into 110V before or after I attempt to change the dish type to 3LNB 18"x20"? Nothing I've been able to read mentions this procedure.

I am very cautious about plugging something into 110V. Don't want to blow my receivers.

Don't worry. Your receivers aren't really plugged into 110V. The power inserter is providing 29V to the LNB, not to the receiver. That's why you have carefully selected which port of the power inserter you have connected to the LNB and which you have connected to the SWM8 switch.

The sequence which you power up first, etc, is not important.

Thank you, that's one problem I won't have to be worrying about.
Oh, one other insignicant question then hopefully I'll quit bothering everyone.

Is there any short cut to reach the dish configuration position instead of having to go thru all the Menu, Settings & Help, Satellite, and repeat Satellite Setup?
I was hoping that when I installed the SWM8 switch kit it would eliminate all the hassel making all the changes from the Trav'ler to the Dome but didn't realize the size/shape of the dish was still a factor.

As I'm told "you can't win them all, just deal with it". But as they also say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Boy am I learning that.
