Convert OTA from coax to HDMI

I bought a new HDMI 4x4 switch to select various sources to my TVs. The new box does not have a coaxial input so I cannot connect my antenna to it. I want to convert the coax to HDMI so I can pass the antenna input through the switch. Has anyone else done this?

No this will not work. Connect coax to tv directly and leave it that way.No switching needed.

You might be able to put the coax into one of these and then take the HDMI output to your splitter.

HDMI and coax are for different things. Coax carries the received signal but HDMI carries video and audio. When you use HDMI, your TV is just acting as a fancy video monitor and not as a television receiver.

The device that mkdunn points to might do it. It contains a TV tuner. That's the thing inside the TV that receives the signal from the antenna and decodes it into video and audio. You're losing the use of that internal tuner if you only want to run HDMI to the TV.

Great explanation, thanks.

Coax to HDMI converters are available. I would go to a high end home entertainment center to see what they have available & solicit their advice.

Don't forget that any converter is going to need a remote control to scan for and change channels etc since it's really an inline TV tuner.

Hopefully you can combine that and the TV control into one learning remote. An RF remote would probably be better than IR if the device supports that if you intend to have the converter hidden away somewhere.
