Cortana is driving me nuts!

Annette and I have laptops with Windows 10. The Cortana box is continually popping up on her screen for no apparent reason, and I have tried everything I know to stop it! I sign out of Cortana and it pops up wanting us to sign in. When I sign in it pops up wanting us to ask a question!

It never happens on my laptop. Can someone PLEASE tell me what to do?

Are you talking about the old Cortana search or that new thing they added in the latest release that gives you the weather on the task bar, that pops up if you hover over it?

Hers does have the weather in the task bar, mine does not. It's a big rectangular box. Our laptops have the latest software.

The latest version has the new pop-up.

Nice coach by the way, our prior coach was a 2005 Safari Gazelle 40PBT. Looked an awful lot like yours.

When Windows 10 first came out with its own browser and Cortana and "tiles" and everything else, I went into settings and disabled everything I could. I use the browser I want to use, and a different mail program as well. Every time it updates it tries to get me to use Cortana and all its other garbage again, but I don't.

I went back into the Cortana settings and found that I had not disabled the Keypad access mode. I did that so we'll see what happens!

Did you try Settings/Apps/Cortana, and then disable "run on login" or even "uninstall"? Worked for me.

The "Run on login" was on. I disabled it. The "uninstall" button is grayed out, not letting me use it!

Once I disabled that and then re-started the laptop, Cortana no longer started up. Not so on yours?

Don't know yet. It's Annette's laptop and she will be using it later today. I'll let you know. Thanks!

I followed the instructions and was able to remove it from my task bar and disable on startup. Was not able to delete the app
