Crank up dish 2003 Discovery

I have a crank up dish on the coach. From what I have read I will have to crank in the individual low definition satellites as needed. Is there anyway to upgrade the LNB to capture more than one satellite. I presume no because of the lack of skew....

Do not want to invest in a auto high definition dish (like the roof mounted Winegard Direct TV dish) due to the dense trees in the campgrounds we visit here in Oregon that do not have cable. This comes to question #2, I have heard there is some new products on the horizon such as a Direct TV high def portable dome. Any info?

Looked at Dish pay as you go but too pricey to get a package we want and of course would have to buy the portable dome. Can't see paying both Direct and Dish for service as I would not switch over to Dish as I see Direct TV as the superior service.

Thanks.

I agree, the Winegard "crank-up" is not Direct HDTV capable.

So, the OP wants to get a "portable" antenna for Direct HDTV account(?)

The portable antenna offerings cause a big split between Dish and Direct....From what I know, only Direct SDTV can be received by any of the current manufactured "dome" antenna (portable or fixed).

So, what to do? The typical answer is to acquire a tripod mounted SWM dish.
Like: Directv HD Satellite Dish RV Tripod Kit w Directv SWM 5 Lnb Dish (TKT-5SB) [TKT-5SB] - $149.99 : The Satellite Shop, Satellite Dish Equipment - TV Programming
These are not auto-aim, but will give you the signals you want.

I have not heard of any new domes coming for Direct HDTV...but that could change.

Best luck

I have debated whether to go that route but then again you have to aim it although I did install a Direct TV dish at my B&M in 1996. Just not sure what I want to do. If I had deep pockets I would buy the roof top HD auto Winegard dish and pay Dish when I had to use the portable dome. But....who knows, we hole up in AZ during Dec, Jan Feb & Mar and the park has decent cable.

Thank you for your reply.
