The main takeaway point on Lenovo is that they were caught red-handed building spyware into their laptops. (It was in the news, you can search it up.) They were fined and yet they STILL turned around and did it AGAIN.
And so these are are not people I personally care to purchase equipment from nor would I recommend them. Why would they want to purposely put spyware in the bios of their own computers? What other nasty things might they think are OK to do?

Did you actually do your own research or just assume that because a Chinese owned company has been around since the 80's they wouldn't dare engage in spying?
They did. I work for the US Gov as an engineer in the defense sector - this is real to us. Perhaps you don't care, but don't spread disinformation.

Every major news organization around the world I guess. Just because you missed it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Like I said, it's easy enough to search up. Googling "Lenovo spyware" should give you a good start.

Hello WagonMaster 2,
A very lively discussion on the pros and cons of Dell vs Lenovo vs Chrombook. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. From your discussion, both the Dell and Lenovo has about the same hardware. Regarding "spyware," this is more or less tracking software for companies to "target ads" at you. Your new machine will be a Windows 10. This is a major redesign to what you are use to - "tiles vs icons." It is a learning curve for the best of us. Also, Window 10 has "many features" that actually "track" you. One main feature of Windows 10 is Cortina. She tracks everything you look at. This is why Widnows 10 has been a FREE upgrade. How do you think MicroSoft makes any money on this OS? If you are a bit tech savy, you can defeat these. Many good articles on the web instruct you on how to do it.
But in the end, the keyboard may be the big differentiator. Lenovo purchased the old IBM PC unit. They always had "best in class" keyboards. Also, is the keyboard "back lighted?" This helps out when in a room that is darker. Once last thing, look at the resolution of the screens. One brand may have a better one over the other. Still unsure? Plug the model into YouTube and look for reviews on each. Hope this helps out.
Best Regards
Dutch Master

What Dutch Master said. The models you mentioned were on sale at Staples? If you can go to the store, look at the keyboards, the all around stance, profile, screen, weight, etc.
Laptops in that strata are nearly commodity items. Pick the one that you think you'd feel most comfortable operating. Do a little research on their respective reputations for quality / life span.
Good luck!
