Different devices get different cellular speeds
I just ran a test of a new setup and found something I don't understand. I did the test on my macbook pro and got download speeds of 20 gigs. Satisfied with the test I had to do something on my iphone. I changed the wifi over to the same wifi I did for the test and thought, I'm going to run a speedtest.
Everything was in the same place, within 5 minutes in time, even sitting in the same chair. On my iphone, using the same speed test, Ookla, I get 35 gigs down.
Can someone explain why this happened? I'm sure there is a logical reason I'm just ignorant to what it is.

This link suggests a few solutions, to your problems. I'm certainly no expert on it, but one post suggested it was an ap running on the macbook.

How old is the Macbook? Older wifi cards in the laptops are rated at a lower speed.

We need a lot more details, what are you connecting to, how are you connecting, etc.

I was connected to and ATT unlimited plan and the 8800 jetpack. The jetpack was connected to a Poyitang antenna on the roof of the coach. The macbook pro is a 2017 and the Iphone 8 plus was purchased at the same time.
It's not a big deal I was just surprised to see so much of a difference.

I'd run the tests alternating between devices several times before drawing any conclusion. In my experience cellular speeds vary wildly within seconds sometimes as loads on the network change. It's really tough sometimes to know where the bottleneck is.

I agree, have seen speeds change very quickly.

I didn't know that the Novatel 8800 would work on a GSM network like AT&T.

Let me clear this up, my mistake. The ATT was in the pepwave router using the paddle antennas and the Verizon was in the 8800 connected to the roof MIMO antenna. sorry about the confusion.

ill add to your confusion. I had a computer, laptop, and 3 cellphones all give me different speeds to my wifi when i was having issues. i then tried using 3 different speed test websites and they all ranged wildly. it was seriously like throwing darts at a wall of numbers.

Lots of variables MIMO should be faster but then again what bands, what channels was each device using.
Were you comparing Verizon on one device ATT on another and expecting the same results?
